After comparing himself to Alexei Navalny, Trump told the Maryland crowd, “I stand before you today not only as your past and hopefully future president, but as a proud political dissident. I am a dissident.” He continued, ” I’ve been indicted more than Alphonse Capone, Mr. President. Do you know who that is? Even the president just said, I do, Scarface, Al Capone.”

Trump talked more about his indictments and promised to “fire” President Biden. He then stated, “We’re going to bring our country back. For hard-working Americans, November 5th will be our new liberation day. But for the liars and cheaters and fraudsters and sensors and imposters who have commandeered our government, it will be their judgment– day their judgment day.”

The Trump campaign pointed out that the former president, who is all but confirmed to be GOP presidential nominee, spoke at the CPAC event for the 14th time, breaking the previous record held by former president Ronald Reagan. If he returns to the White House, Trump promised “absolute revenge.”

“Your victory will be our ultimate vindication, your liberty will be our ultimate reward, and the unprecedented success of the United States of America will be my ultimate and absolute revenge,” Trump said in his 90-minute speech.

CPAC organizers held a straw poll to select who could be Trump’s running mate. Gover Kristi Noem and former presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy gained 15 percent, while Tulsi Gabbard, a former Hawaii representative, followed them. Among 1500 people who voted, some also chose Elise Stefanik, a New York representative, Tim Scott, who joined Trump on stage, and even Nikki Haley, with only 2 percent.

The former president, who was a reality TV star in the show The Apprentice, repeated his catchphrase in Maryland and then after the South Carolina victory. Trump said at the CPAC event, “Crooked Joe Biden, you are fired! Get out of here. You’re destroying our country. You’re fired. Get the hell out of here!”

At some point, Trump started talking about Prince Harry and warned him, “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”

Before the South Carolina primaries, Trump talked at the  Black Conservative Federation Gala, where he shared, “I got indicted a second time and a third time and a fourth time, and a lot of people said that that’s why the Black people like me because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against.”

Trump shared why he believes he gained the support of Black voters, “I think that’s why the Black people are so much on my side now because they see what’s happening to me happens to them. Does that make sense?”

At the same event, Trump stated, “My mug shot, we’ve all seen the mug shot. And you know who embraced it more than anybody else: the Black population. It’s incredible.” Then, he tried to joke, which did not sit well with everyone.

“These lights are so bright in my eyes that I can’t see too many people out there. But I can only see the Black ones. I can’t see any white ones. You see, that’s how far I’ve come. That’s how far I’ve come,” Trump said while joking about a racial stereotype that Black people can’t be seen in the dark.

The Biden campaign was not pleased

The Biden campaign fired back against Trump’s remarks, with Cedric Richmond, the co-chairman of the Biden-Harris campaign, saying, “Though I may be disgusted, I am not at all surprised that Donald Trump would equate the suffering and injustice of Black people in America to consequences he now faces because of his own actions.”

“Donald Trump claiming that Black Americans will support him because of his criminal charges is insulting. It’s moronic. And it’s just plain racist,” added Richmond, and continued, “He thinks Black voters are so uninformed that we won’t see through his shameless pandering. He has another thing coming. Trust me when I say, in November, the very voting block that he continues to disrespect will make him eat these words.”
