Former President Trump expressed grief over the death of his former aide, Mike Gill, while, in the same post, calling for a federal takeover of D.C. Meanwhile, the House GOP is working on a special resolution that involves D.C. and the former president.
Trump on Truth Social
The former president and likely GOP nominee wrote on Truth Social, “Wonderful and brilliant Mike Gill, a highly respected member of the Trump Administration, was ruthlessly and viciously shot in the head during a carjacking in Washington, D.C. He was a SPECIAL PERSON — His family and friends are devastated.”
But things went south soon
Trump ended the touching tribute with, “The Federal Government must take over D.C. God bless Michael and his family!” The 45th president linked a Daily Mail article to his post.
Gill was shot in D.C.
Gill, the 56-year-old father of three, served in Obama’s and Trump’s administrations. Under Trump, he was on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He was a victim of a carjacking that took the life of one more 35-year-old man, and the rampage ended with the police shooting the suspect 11 hours later.
Gill was in hospital for days
Following the shooting and carjacking, Gill spent five days in the hospital. However, his wife, Kristina Gill, confirmed he did not pull through.
Carjacking is one of D.C.’s biggest problems
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the number of carjackings increased for the sixth consecutive year in 2023. There were 959 reported incidents last year.
Right-wing blames Biden
Laura Loomer, a Trump supporter and host of the podcast Loomer Unleashed, wrote about “stolen elections.” She shared on X, “Stolen elections have consequences. Crime in D.C. never would have gotten this bad if Trump were in office. Very sad and tragic. This didn’t need to happen. Prayers to Mike Gill’s family.”
Libs Of TikTok agreed
“Democrats have turned D.C. into a lawless hellhole, and this is the tragic result. RIP Mike Gill. Praying for his family,” wrote the creator of Libs Of TikTok page.
Meanwhile, the House GOP is working on a resolution
According to Daily Mail’s copy, Florida Representative Matt Gaetz is reportedly creating a resolution that says Trump”did not engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
It is gaining momentum
Gaetz’s staff to Republican officials wrote in an email, “You are receiving this email because your boss endorsed President Trump, and we would love to have your support as an original co-sponsor before we send the resolution and the list of sponsors to the former President.” Over 25 co-sponsors were reported on January 24.
Flying under the radar
Gaetz’s mail further stated, “This resolution is a no-brainer – controversial only to the most extreme of the far left – and a statement of fact that every single Republican can be expected to support.”
Election interference
The Florida lawmaker continued, “If the left has the courage to interfere in our elections and weaponize the judicial system against our brethren, we must have the courage to express what is self-evident.”
Officer Michael Fanone blasted Gaetz
Former DC Metropolitan police officer Michael Fanone told Insider that this resolution is another example of “Matt Gaetz’s endless a..-kissing campaign.” Fanone said he feels “betrayed” by some of the GOP lawmakers, adding that he can’t go to the gym because someone will tell him he’s part of the conspiracy to “prevent Donald Trump from occupying the White House.”
Did Trump commit insurrection on January 6?
Two federal cases are pending regarding the alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election. The Colorado Supreme Court says Trump is ineligible to run again. The Court’s decision regarding the Colorado ballot will likely answer. The Court will hear oral arguments in the case on February 8.
Like resolutions to expunge Trump’s impeachment
Marjorie Taylor Greene and Elise Stefanik revealed a resolution to “expunge” both of Trump’s impeachments last June. Since the second impeachment was regarding the Capitol riots, it is clear why the two resolutions sound similar. Within 36 hours after the riots, five people died, and over 170 officers were injured. The Senate acquitted Trump.
