Lauren Boebert suffered a blowback by placing fifth in a straw poll in her new congressional district, following her first GOP primary with eight other Republicans.
In the middle
According to Colorado Politics, Boebert finished fifth after the first primary debate with just over 10% of the vote or 12 out of the 117. The polling consisted of 100 Republicans at the debate. The survey proved it would be an uphill battle for the Colorado representative.
Sonnenberg and Lynch topped the polling
Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg won the poll with 22 percent, followed by State Representative Mike Lynch with 20. Lynch questioned Boebert’s motives and asked, “Could you, like, give the definition of carpetbagger for me?” Boebert fired back, “Is this a ‘Mary Poppins’ question?”
Democrat mocked Boebert’s polling
Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, wrote on X, “Before I go to bed, I thought it would only be fitting to send ‘thoughts & prayers’ to my colleague, Lauren Boebert. It’s my understanding that she placed 5th in her first straw poll of the election cycle.”
The nickname
The lawmaker continued, “Now how many of y’all think BoBo gonna try to convince us that polls don’t matter… of course unless they are trash for Biden & great for Trump!”
Republicans against Trump Joined in
Republicans Against Trump wrote on X, “Lauren Boebert finishes 5th in a straw poll at the first GOP primary debate in her new district. She received just 10% of the vote from the Republicans who participated in the survey at the debate.” The conservatives added she was “finished.”
A progressive activist also shared the news
Victor Chi, an activist and Biden supporter, wrote: “Great news! Lauren Boebert has finished in *5th place* in a straw poll in the new ‘GOP friendly’ district she moved to—& this is only for the primary election, not the general. Colorado is so fed up with her. Lauren Boebert is so screwed & it makes me so happy.”
Boebert’s move to “GOP friendly” district
The head of the Colorado Republican Party, Dave Williamson, challenged Boebert’s move from the 3rd to the “GOP-friendly” 4th congressional district. Williamson told CNN, “From a party perspective, we certainly don’t think it was the best move.”
Boebert’s argument
In a surprising move, Boebert announced on Facebook that “Hollywood elites and progressive money groups” were targeting the 3rd district. Her Democratic opponent, Adam Frisch, outraised her over four times in the last quarter after she beat him by less than 600 votes in the previous election.
The explanation
Boebert argued, “We cannot lose the third, and Colorado’s Fourth District is hungry for an unapologetic defender of freedom with a proven track record of standing strong for conservative principles.”
Republican strategist reminded of Boebert’s name recognition
Hagen Solin, a Republican strategist, told The Denver Post, “You will see the vast majority of primary voters voting for someone other than Congresswoman Boebert,” adding, “Boebert, however, is well positioned to win the plurality vote given her name recognition that extends across the 4th, unlike that of any of the other candidates.”
Boebert has been making headlines in the past months
After her September Beetlejuice vaping debacle and switching districts, Boebert made headlines in January over the arrest of her ex-husband. He was charged after two domestic incidents, and as Boebert confirmed, Jayson Boebert was the reason she moved.
The confirmation
Boebert’s office told The Independent, “This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving. I didn’t punch Jayson in the face, and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”
