“Amnesty is a complete non-starter for me”: Boebert joins Gaetz in attacking “leaked” border security bill

US Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO), joined by members of the House Freedom Caucus, speaks on the debt limit deal outside the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on May 30, 2023. Republican and Democratic leaders scrambled on May 29, 2023, to secure congressional support for a bill aimed at avoiding a US debt default. The bill, finalized on May 28, 2023, by US President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, after weeks of frantic negotiations, faces opposition from the progressive and hard-right wings of their respective parties. Several House Republicans, including Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Matt Gaetz, expressed their disapproval over the allegedly proposed border security bill, with Boebert posting on X it would be the “ultimate betrayal.”

Matt Gaetz, a House representative from Florida, posted a brief clip on his X account, property of Libs of TikTok. Lauren Boebert, Colorado’s 3rd congressional district representative running for fourth, reposted Gaetz’s X post on January 13, 2024, and added, “If your vision for America is a dumping ground for the problems of the world, you have no place in government.” Boebert, a far-right GOP lawmaker, continued, “Amnesty is a complete non-starter for me. That would be the ULTIMATE betrayal!”

The Florida Republican, who moved to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last October successfully, has a January 17 statement on his official website, saying, “Rep. Matt Gaetz and other House conservatives denounced the alleged compromise on illegal immigration proposed by Republican Sen. James Lankford and the Senate Democrats’ leader.” Gaetz called the bill a “nightmare.”

Georgia firebrand blasted the alleged proposed bill writing on X, “NOOOOOOOO!!!!! This is NOT a border deal! This is a border SURRENDER!! Any elected U.S. politician that supports this doesn’t represent Americans, they represent the rest of the world! Don’t bring it to the floor, put it through a paper shredder!”

James Lankford, an Oklahoma Republican, had to deny the leaked border bill that would allegedly include an allowance of 5,000 migrant crossings daily into the United States, automatically grant work permits to undocumented migrants as soon as they are released from custody, and grant work permits to the adult children of H-1B visa holders.

What’s the truth

Senator Lankford wrote on X, “A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.  -Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1855.” He added, “I encourage people to read the border security bill before they judge the border security bill. I also advise people not to believe everything you read on the internet….”

The Senator is in hot waters despite denying the leaked proposal, with Dusty Deevers, a Republican from Oklahoma, sharing on Januar 17, “While the written text of the bill has not yet been released, we pray that Senator Lankford et al. will withdraw from any negotiations resembling a betrayal of our fellow citizens.”

“Time will tell”

Deevers also said in his lengthy post, “Senator Lankford is in the driver’s seat. Should he choose to protect the American people by enforcing the law and rejecting this deal, then this resolution will not be submitted. Time will tell.”

Jamie Raskin, an ex-constitutional law professor and Maryland representative, said, “It has become obvious that Trump’s party doesn’t want immigration solutions at the border; they want immigration problems to run against.” Ohio Democrat Shontel Brown  said Biden inherited a “broken” immigration system, adding, “Extreme Republicans have a choice — they can keep using immigration to try to score political points, or they can help solve the problem.”
