Rob Walker, the latest witness in the impeachment inquiry against President Biden, told Congress that he “was never involved in any of the business activities.”
Walker worked with Hunter Biden
Hunter Biden’s business associate, Walker, testified in front of the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committee behind closed doors. But Axios, ABC News, and several other outlets obtained Walker’s opening statements, and it appears that this only proved that the President was not involved in businesses with his son.
Walker was clear
In his opening statement, Walker said, “To be clear, President Biden – while in office or as a private citizen – was never involved in any of the business activities we pursued. Any statement to the contrary is simply false.”
Anything else is “false”
Walker added that Hunter Biden “made sure there was always a clear boundary between any business and his father. Always. And as his partner, I always understood and respected that boundary.”
Challenging motives
The businessman wondered, “Based on what has transpired through this inquiry to date, I am very concerned that what I say here today may be taken out of context to further a political objective rather than to discover the truth.”
Biden allegedly met the chairman of a Chinese company
However, there was one moment that made people pause. According to the NY Post, Walker testified that after his Vice Presidency, Biden appeared at the meeting with CEFC China Energy, which included the firm’s chairman, Ye Jianming. However, Walker said Biden “said hello to everybody” and then “literally sat down. I don’t even think he drank water. I think Hunter said, um… ‘I may be tryin’ to start a company,’ ah, or tried to do something with these guys and could you … and [I] think he was like ‘if I’m around’….and he’d show up.”
Another source commented
Another source told the NY Post, “Walker told the Committee that he believes Joe Biden briefly dropped by because Joe Biden simply wanted to lay eyes on his son who was in and out of sobriety.”
This prompted Comer’s statement
A statement from Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said, “Today we learned that Joe Biden met with the now-missing Chairman of CEFC, Ye Jianming, as Hunter Biden and his associates received $3 million from a Chinese entity CEFC controlled.”
“Biden Brand”
“Evidence continues to reveal the Bidens sold the ‘Biden Brand’ to enrich the Biden family. Today’s interview confirmed Hunter Biden and his associates’ work with the Chinese government-linked energy company began over a year before Joe Biden left the vice presidency,” Comer’s statement, issued on January 26, added.
Biden’s deposition
Hunter Biden agreed to a deposition scheduled for February 28 as part of Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into the President. The transcript of Walker’s testimony should be available soon.
Jordan and Comer are happy
Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, and Comer said in a statement, “We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony,” adding that Hunter Biden’s deposition “will come after several interviews with Biden family members and associates.”
Kevin Morris blasted the GOP
According to ABC News, Kevin Morris, a lawyer and Hunter Biden’s adviser, blasted the post-interview statement GOP officials gave. Morris told the outlet, “It’s embarrassing, and I think they know it.”
Comer on Moriss’ testimony
Comer stated that Morris gave the Committee information that increased “ethical and campaign finance concerns for President Joe Biden.” He added that Morris’ financial support of Hunter Biden was part of an effort “to insulate then-presidential candidate Joe Biden from political liability.”
Morris called out Republicans
Morris said about congressional Republicans, “They bring up something totally innocuous and legal, get nowhere with it, and then run to the cameras and make spooky noises.” He added, “My ‘access’ to the White House’ consisted of a tour, attending a wedding, and the especially heinous crime of attending last year’s Fourth of July picnic with hundreds of other people.”
