Democrats say Trump got at least $7.8 million from China, Saudi Arabia, and other countries while in the White House, and the news broke while James Comer was trying to link President Biden to illegal businesses.
Accusations against Trump
Qatar spent $300,000 at the Trump Hotel in 2018, the House Committee documents revealed. The document alleged, “Between January and early March 2018, the Sheikh Al Thani Family, the ruling family of Qatar, booked an extended stay at the Trump Hotel, spending at least $282,037. On several occasions during this period, for example, on February 11 and February 12, 2018, a room under the name ‘Ivanka & Jared Kushner’ was booked on the same nights of the Sheikh Al Thani room block.”
Just one of the allegations
Democrats started the investigation two years ago and reportedly revealed that Trump, then a sitting president, gained $7.8 million from foreign countries, including China. China is among the nations the GOP is mainly focused on while searching for an alleged illegal business committed by President Biden.
“Split loyalty”
“By pocketing foreign states’ payments, President Trump repeatedly placed his personal financial interest and the interests of foreign wealth and power above the public interest, resulting in precisely the split loyalty between a foreign power and the American people that the Framers sought to avoid,” the report by the Democrats added.
But the Democrats were not done
The House Democrats also stated in the report, “This subset of documents reveals a stunning web of millions of dollars in payments made by foreign governments and their agents directly to Trump-owned businesses while President Trump was in the White House.”
Capitol reporter got more information
MSNBC’s correspondent Ryan Noble explained, “It’s a 156-page exhaustive report that details only two years of the Donald Trump presidency, in which they outline millions of dollars in payments that flowed directly from foreign governments into the various businesses controlled by Donald Trump and his associates.”
Conflict of interest?
The reporter added, “Even though his [adult] children did run these businesses, he was still directly involved or had knowledge of the day-to-day business activity that many of these different associated entities were doing while he was in office.”
The Trumps vs. The Bidens
Noble said the report “outlines the types of payments many of these foreign governments made to his various businesses.” One of the Trump-associated businesses allegedly involved China, which is highly problematic due to Trump’s claims, especially about Hunter Biden and his alleged business with China.
The battle of billions
At some point during his 2020 campaign, Trump said that Biden, as Vice President, got 1.5 billion from China. Trump added, “So the Bidens got rich while America got robbed.” But, there is also a question of two billion the Kushners allegedly got from Saudi Arabia.
No proof so far
While House Republicans continue repeating there is “the Biden crime family,” they still haven’t found that payment from China. The Oversight Committee now accuses the President of taking from foreign entities through his son and presented that he loaned his son $4,000 to buy a truck.
Nobles explained what was happening
The reporter shared how the Republicans failed to show “vast amounts of millions of dollars worth of payments that were directly given to Joe Biden as a result of his son’s business dealings, nor have they shown any evidence that Joe Biden’s role as a public official benefitted any of these foreign entities.”
Raskin spoke up
The lawmaker and constitutional law professor Jamie Raskin stated, “Trump repeatedly and willfully violated the constitution by failing to divest from his business empire and allowing his businesses to accept millions of dollars in payments from some of the most corrupt nations on earth.”
Raskin’s conclusion
The Democrat continued, “The governments making these payments sought specific foreign policy outcomes from President Trump and his administration. Each dollar … accepted violated the constitution’s strict prohibition on payments from foreign governments, which the founders enacted to prevent presidents from selling out US foreign policy to foreign leaders.”
Raskin vs. Comer
Comer, who is leading Republicans in their attempts to impeach President Biden, faced Raskin’s wrath, as he declared, “Committee chairman James Comer and House Republicans buried any further evidence of the Trump family’s staggering corruption.”
Comer fired back
Comer responded, “Former President Trump has legitimate businesses, but the Bidens do not. The Bidens and their associates made over $24m by cashing in on the Biden name in China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Romania. No goods or services were provided other than access to Joe Biden and the Biden network.”
Still, there is something missing
Republicans have not produced compelling evidence of corruption involving Biden, most experts agreed. Several Republicans also admitted they do not think there’s enough evidence.
Prominent Republicans against the impeachment probe
Republican Ken Buck even blasted Greene, “Well, Marjorie filed articles of impeachment on President Biden before he was sworn into office … so the idea that she is now the expert on impeachment or that she is someone who should set the timing on impeachment is absurd.” Senator Chuck Grassley said he has not seen evidence that would make Biden guilty. We will have to wait and see…
