Trump’s Rhetoric Is Reaching “Unhinged” Levels, Former Aids Says

Former White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews, a member of the Republican party, warned about former President Trump’s increased “unhinged” rhetoric. Matthews talked to Jen Psaki, who was once a White House Press Secretary under the Biden administration.

Psaki stated, “I’m sure you’ve been watching because he’s been so outspoken in the recent days and weeks, and you are someone I know from the role; you probably read speeches, you edited speeches, you are very familiar with how he talks.” The host then asked, “As you are watching, do you think he’s gotten worse, more unhinged?” Matthews, who left her job after January 6 and testified before the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol, shared her concerns and confirmed Psaki’s assumptions.

The former WH Press Secretary commented, “I do think he’s gotten more unhinged in his rhetoric,” adding, “Obviously, Donald Trump’s first four years in office were marked by lots of controversies. But I think that the type of rhetoric that he is using today, it’s really concerning.”

Matthews added, “I think that the type of rhetoric that he is using today, it’s really concerning. It’s almost Hitler-esque in a way, especially when he talks about things like immigration, saying things like, ‘Poisoning the blood of our country.'”

Matthews further revealed about her former boss,  “He is trying to prey on people’s worst instincts and get them angry and riled up; that is something he tends to do, but it’s just the rhetoric that he is using, it’s really concerning to me now.”

Matthews, who is supporting longshot GOP candidate Nikki Haley, urged people to listen to Trump’s speeches. Asked whether she will vote for Trump if we see the 2020 rematch in November, she replied with “No.” Matthews explained why she would rather vote for President Biden than Trump.

Policies aside

“I have said that if it is a choice between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in a general election, that even if I don’t agree with the policies of President Biden, I would put policy aside and I would cast my vote for him for democracy,” Matthews elaborated.

Trump “will not uphold the Constitution”

Matthews doubled down, “I look at Donald Trump, and this is someone who has shown us he will not uphold the Constitution. And so, there is no question in my mind then that I would be voting for Joe Biden.”

The host and analyst said on her latest show, “Inside with Jen Psaki,” that “You don’t need to agree with Haley on much — I don’t necessarily — but you can still acknowledge she has been making a clear case against Trump in speech after speech. And that case is one of stark contrasts: Trump is dangerous. She is normal. Trump is chaotic. She is stable..”

Still, none of it matters

After Haley’s loss in her home state of South Carolina, Psaki commented, “As we saw it again last night for the majority of the Republican electorate, none of it sticks. None of it seems to matter.”

GOP voters want Trump

Psaki added, “Republican primary voters, including, again, the majority of Republican primary voters in Haley’s home state, don’t want or don’t seem to want a young, experienced, conservative governor who delivers solid speeches and doesn’t appear to be unhinged. They want Donald Trump.”

Despite the loss, the two-time South Carolina Governor said, “I’m not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden.”

Haley, who will likely stay in the race until Super Tuesday on March 5, added, “I said earlier this week that, no matter what happens in South Carolina, I would continue to run for president,” and concluded, “I’m a woman of my word.”
