Trump Posts Modified Newsweek Articles on Truth Social, and People are Not Suprised

After years of calling out “fake news,” the former president took to Truth Social to post altered screenshots from a Newsweek article. He simply redacted the parts that are not in his favor, and many are not surprised.

The logo and title were untouched

First, Trump posted Newsweek’s article “Donald Trump Poised to Be First Republican to Win Popular Vote in 20 Years.” He did not post a link but screenshots, which gave him enough room to leave out unfavorable content. In the second screenshot, he mixed two paragraphs and removed the one stating that he “notably failed to secure” the popular vote in the 2016 race against Hillary Clinton.

The article noted that President Biden would gain a 2-point lead if Trump gets convicted. That part was removed. Another removed part said that both presidents were favored by their own parties. It also removed comments by experts, with one saying Trump’s desire for the popular vote is “wishful thinking.”

Caught again

MeidasTouch once again caught the former president creating his own news by editing a Newsweek article titled “Joe Biden’s Chances vs. Donald Trump ‘Slim at Best’: Major Pollster.” J.D. Wolf, the reporter for the liberal network MeidasTouch, compared Trump’s posts to “1984 fashion” and listed all the edits.

What was not posted

Among the removed material is the statement that Biden will likely win the 2024 election and Biden’s “record-breaking” popular vote victory in 2020. Basically, the deducted parts favored Trump without mentioning anything that would show President Biden’s chances exist.

It happened before

When then-16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg became Time Magazine’s Person of The Year, an X account titled Trump War Room posted the cover, but Greta was replaced by then-President Trump. The 2019 post is still online, with the caption, “When it comes to keeping his promises, there’s only one Person Of The Year.”

No surprises

One Reddit poster described, “There is no bigger enemy to Donald Trump than reality. His entire worldview is based on objective nonsense, and so he’s constantly bumping up against reality. Literally, nothing the man says is true, from the tiniest details to his biggest vision; it’s all lies. Let us defeat the orange blob whose hair is cotton candy made from pi..s one last time so that we can be done with him once and for all.”

Media manipulation

Another Reddit user stated, “Perhaps media manipulation is the only way the GOP front-runner can get the kind of press he desires.” Some asked, “Is he printing another Time Person of the Year profile?”

“Always projection”

Someone shared, “Always projection. Always,” while another added, “always accusing people of what he’s guilty of.” One person  joked, “Time’s man, woman, person, camera, TV of the year.”

Questioning legality

One asked, “Is this not something somewhat illegal?” Another responded, “No, what law do you think it would violate? He could likely be sued in civil court, however.” Third counted, “Seems like those media outlets have a legal case against Trump for possible defamation.”

“Lies become truth”

A Reddit user wrote, “Relative truth oftentimes matters more than the actual truth. Get enough people to believe the lie long enough, and the lie becomes the truth to the masses.” Someone pointed out the irony, “He’s taking screenshots of articles and editing anything bad about him out and posting those screenshots to his Truth(lol) site. He’s posting lies to a website he calls ‘Truth.'”

1984 references

Someone shared, “Somebody in the Trump camp has been reading the Cliff Notes to 1984.” Another warned, “Creating his own propaganda media is very dictatorial. Maybe people confuse media freedom with freedom of speech?”

One Reddit poster complained, “This is an old photo that they use; in the recent ones, you can see Trump gained weight with a saggier face and more white hair.” Another asked, “Why are people still shocked by this type of behavior?” This person suggested, “Biden should do the same thing. See how Trump reacts.”
