Speaker Johnson Betrayed by Republicans Following “Horrible” Sermon During a GOP Retreat

A new report claims that even Republicans were disappointed with Speaker Johnson’s ultra-religious sermon during Miami’s GOP retreat. Instead of talking about the razor-thin majority, Politico claims that the House Speaker was more focused on the sermon.

Johnson, a righteous Christian

A small group of GOP lawmakers went to a Miami retreat to strategize about one of the smallest majorities in House history. But, Johnson was more focused on moral decline in the United States, Politico states.

Two sources confirmed that Jonhson spoke about how people who don’t have God in their lives will turn to the government for guidance. The speech reportedly fell flat, with one person telling Politico, “I’m not at church,” and adding, “The sermon was so long.”

He failed to make a point

“I think what he was trying to do, but failed on the execution of it, was try to bring us together,” the source said, adding, “He couldn’t bring it back to make the point,” while claiming it was a “horrible sermon.”

Good vs. Johnson

The retreat reportedly sparked “tensions” between Johson and Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good. Good and other hardline Republicans contended that Johnson should guide them in a more conservative direction. Freedom Caucus sent a letter to Johson urging him not to make a deal with the Democrats, which would lead to a government shutdown.

“We need an update”

Freedom Caucus shared the letter on X, with the caption, “Congress is in session just three days before a partial government shutdown begins March 1. We need lower spending levels and real policy wins. If you can’t get either, why proceed with higher than Pelosi spending and preserving all Biden’s policies?” They added, “We need an update.”

Among other things, Freedom Caucus members requested for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ salary to be $0, defund abortion travel programs, defund programs for gender affirmative care, block Biden’s attempts to dismantle the border wall, and even defund Biden’s “Green New Deal.” That includes all actions related to climate change.

Freedom Caucus also requested defunding the UN, WHO, and World Economic Forum. They also asked for numerous bans, including prohibiting student loan funding, DEI, defunding Planned Parenthood, and banning COVID-19 vaccine funding.

Johnson should meet President Biden

Johnson previously complained, “A month I’ve been asking to sit down with the president to talk about the border and talk about national security, and that meeting has not been granted.” But the White House argued that Johnson’s inconsistency kept the two apart.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blasted Johnson over the bipartisan border deal, saying, “What is there to negotiate? Really, truly, what is the one-on-one negotiation about when he’s been presented with exactly what he asked for? So, he’s negotiating with himself. He’s killing bills on his own.”

Johnson could face the same destiny as former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted after making a deal with the Democrats to avoid the government shutdown. The profoundly religious speaker met with former president Trump and shared on X, “Just had a great meeting with President @realdonaldtrump this Presidents’ Day,” adding, “Together, we will grow the majority and save America!”

Former Republican criticized Johnson

Ex-GOP state Senator Jim Hendren blasted House Speaker, “Posting this while Ukrainians are running out of ammo, freezing, and taking heavy losses is really…. Something. Enjoy it today. History will remember it tomorrow. @SpeakerJohnson.”

But, Johson also faced criticism from Christian minister

Writing for Salon, journalist and minister Nathaniel Manderson shared that Johnson “wants to control and mislead people and get them to do evil things.” He added that people like the House Speaker ignore “the needs of the poor, the sick, and immigrants from foreign lands. They support Donald Trump — which should be enough evidence that the devil is real.”
