Nancy Pelosi was at the Munich Security Conference, where she talked to Newsweek about Trump, Biden, the war in Ukraine, and other burning issues.
Pelosi on Trump
House Speaker Emerita told Newsweek that Trump’s “grotesque” and described their interactions as “despicable.” Pelosi, a lifelong Democrat, refuses to believe there’s a possibility of Trump’s second term, “I’ll say to you what I say to them: it’s not going to happen.”
Trump’s campaign spokesperson went after Pelosi
Newsweek reported that following this exchange, Steve Cheung, Trump’s spokesperson, emailed, “Does Nancy Pelosi know where she is half the time?” Cheung also said that there was “peace and prosperity” under Trump.
Pelosi on Biden
The House Speaker Emerita said she was “proud” of the President and described him as “very sharp” and “always on the ball” after Rober Hur’s report that alleged he was “an elderly man” with poor memory. Pelosi declared, “Democracy is on the ballot,” and asked Americans to pay attention to Trump’s recent statements.
Pelosi on Trump’s NATO remarks
The California Democrat shared that the voters should pay attention to Trump’s “coziness with Putin” and his recent “disrespect” for NATO, as well as his attacks on freedoms. Among them, Pelosi said, are “a woman’s right to choose the size and timing of your family,” as well as LGBTQ+ communities.
Putin and Kim Jong
Nancy Pelosi, often the main character in far-right conspiracy theories, said, “It’s awkward to even talk about the election, except for the fear that people have that a grotesque person could be president of the United States.” Pelosi then reminded that Trump, a possible POTUS, is “a person who toadies up to Putin, praises the President of China, chums up to [North Korean leader] Kim Jong Un. I mean, really, what happened?”
“Bite of a poisonous snake”
The lawmaker, who served as House Speaker from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023, commented on how some people see Trump’s possible second term. For many, it will be similar to the first one, but Pelosi warned, “I think a bit more of a bite of a poisonous snake, and I think it’s very horrible.”
Pelosi commented on Navalny’s death
Pelosi said, “He, the evil Putin, has chosen the Munich Security Conference time to do it.” She believes that Navalny’s death will have a “galvanizing influence” of displaying how truly “evil” Putin is. Asked if it will affect Congress, Pelosi said she hopes it will. She added that the U.S. has to find a way to continue “the fight for democracy in Ukraine.”
Make decisions
California representative said that Putin must be stopped, so the lawmakers have to make decisions “in favor of” Russia losing. Pelosi also stated there is strength among NATO countries, though they are concerned by remarks “that have been made about NATO by he who shall remain nameless, but they’re not whining about it.”
Pelosi echoed this statement on social media
On X, the lawmaker wrote, “Now more than ever, the U.S. and our NATO and European partners are unified against Russia’s barbarism and tyranny.” She continued, “Our unyielding support for Ukraine’s fierce and heroic resistance will ensure that Putin is held to account for his heinous crimes and that Democracy prevails.”
Calling Trump a “national security risk”
Pelosi also shared her interview with Anderson Cooper and added that “the defeated former president is getting extreme MAGA Republicans to hold up Ukraine aid needed to fight Putin.” Pelosi also wrote, “We have a national security risk who wants to be president again — we just can’t have that in our country!”
Pelosi also spoke about Biden’s health
The 83-year-old lawmaker told Cooper, “Anyone who would think that they’re at some advantage because of his age thinks that at their peril because he’s very sharp.” She said age is objective but joked, “He’s younger than I am, so what do I have to say about his age?”
Super Bowl comparison
The Chiefs’ head coach since 2013 picked up his third title with the team, so Pelosi stated, “You saw experience prevail at the end. Experience is so important. So Joe Biden has vision, he has knowledge, and he is a strategic thinker. This is a very sharp president in terms of his public presentation,” Pelosi went on, and concluded, “If he makes a slip of the tongue here or there, what‘s the deal?”
