Donald Trump endorsed his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, his son Eric Trump’s wife, to be second in charge of the Republican National Committee. She spoke about her new potential job on Newsmax, vowing to spend “every single penny” on Trump, her father-in-law.
McDaniel is out, Whatley is in
Trump endorsed Michael Whatley as the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. He suggested that Lara Trump would be his co-chair. This comes after speculations that Ronna McDaniel could step down, though nothing was made official.
Trump’s statement regarding Lara Trump
“Lara is an extremely talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for,” Trump said in a statement, adding, “She has told me she wants to accept this challenge and would be GREAT!”
Trump’s daughter-in-law spoke about the endorsement
In an interview with Rob Schmitt on Newsmax, Lara Trump vowed to spend “every single penny” of RNC funds to get Trump re-elected. Schmitt asked her about the changes in the RNC, to which she said, “The RNC needs to be the leanest, most lethal political fighting machine we’ve ever seen in American history.”
Lara Trump’s pledge
The wife of Trump’s second son told Newsmax, “If I am elected to this position, I can assure you there will not be any more $70,000, or whatever exorbitant amount of money it was, spent on flowers. Every single penny will go to the number one and only job of the RNC – that is electing Donald J. Trump as the president of the United States.”
Referencing a previous report
Newsweek recalled that the $70,000 for flowers comment refers to a report by Jennifer Van Laar from RedState. Van Laar wrote that the RNC spent $70,000 on flowers, while Democrats wasted only $795 in the same category.
Michael Cohen chimed in
Cohen, former Trump’s lawyer and fixer, spoke to Ben Meiselas of MeidasTouch and alleged that no one liked Lara Trump. Cohen even claimed that Trump did not want his son to marry Lara, adding, “He had found somebody else that was working at the Trump Organization that he wanted Eric to marry.”
“Donald didn’t even like her for many, many years,”
Cohen added that “Donald didn’t even like her for many, many years,” but it was not only him. Cohen alleged that Don Jr. and Ivanka Trump also “didn’t like her at all” and even made fun of her looks. Still, the two got married in November 2014 at Mar-a-Lago.
Family business
Before marrying Trump’s second oldest son, Lara Trump was on the television show Inside Edition and was a senior consultant for Trump’s 2020 campaign’s digital vendor. Cohen further alleged Trump “couldn’t stand her until she started kissing his a…”
Making it to the RNC
The former attorney, who is a witness in Trump’s upcoming Manhattan case regarding alleged falsifying business records, was not done. He quipped, “Well, what do you do when someone’s kissing your a..? Make them the co-chair of the RNC.” Cohen predicted, “She’s only being installed there to do what Donald wants with all of the money that’s going to be raised.”
Trump’s endorsement of Whatley
“I think my friend Michael Whatley should be the RNC’s next leader,” Trump said in a statement. Whatley worked as an adviser on the Trump-Pence campaign and is a known election denier.
“Why Michael Whatley?”
People took to X to question Trump’s endorsement, with Denise Harrison saying: “These choices are supposed to inspire conservatives to donate money? I wasn’t donating before…I sure in hell won’t be donating to the RNC now!” Reno Ciccotta asked, “Why Michael Whatley?”

Emerald Robinson, the host of The Absolute Truth, a show on platform Frank, said: “Whatley is a Koch Bros swamp creature. He’s anti-MAGA. Bad choice for RNC chair.” An X user replied: “Emerald is right. I am from NC, and Whatley is poison.”
Trump on McDaniel
McDaniel, a current chair and Mitt Romney’s niece was chosen by Trump in 2017, but the relationship cooled off. During his interview on Newmax, Trump said it was time for her to step down. He added, “I think she knows that. I think she understands that.”
