Marjorie Taylor Greene mocked for failing to pronounce “indictable”

On Tuesday, the House Homeland Security Committee was debating whether to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of homeland security. While speaking, Greene mispronounced the word ‘indictable,’ prompting internet users to poke fun at her.

“The historical evidence is overwhelming,” Greene was filmed saying, “that the Founding Fathers intended impeachment to be used to deal with the commission of ‘in-DIK-table’ crimes and the abuse of power.”

Indictable is pronounced “in-DYE-table.” A clip of Greene’s mispronunciation went viral on X, formerly Twitter, where users leveled insults at the controversial congresswoman.

“My 7th grader knows the word INDICTABLE,” one user wrote. “This is a UNITED STATES CONGRESSWOMAN. Georgia should be embarrassed right now.” Greene represents Georgia’s 14th congressional district.

Not the best

“Marge Greene is an example of our lowest common denominator,” another user commented. “She does not represent the best, the brightest, or even the median-IQ American.”

“Maybe a person who can’t even read/pronounce indictable,” one user asked, “shouldn’t be allowed to use it as a political weapon?”

Not the first time

Greene first attempted to impeach Mayorkas in November. She accused him of failing to protect the southern border.

However, the impeachment attempt was blocked by a vote in the House. According to Reuters, Greene was “outraged” at the result of the vote.

Greene and several of her other far-right colleagues have once again accused Mayorkas of “wilful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” by releasing migrants who have been processed and are waiting for their case to be heard.

By releasing these processed migrants, Mayorkas is, in fact, following federal immigration law. “I assure you,” Mayorkas wrote to Greene before the hearing on Tuesday, “your false accusations do not rattle me.”

Mayorkas informed Greene that her “false accusations” also “do not divert me from the law enforcement and broader public service mission to which I have devoted most of my career and to which I remain devoted.”

Total mess

“This is a political stunt and a hit job,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said about the impeachment attempt. He claimed it had been “ordered by two people, Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

Widespread anger

“This is, at best, a sham,” Rep. Bennie Thompson echoed. Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee stated that Greene’s “vague, unprecedented, and fallacious charges amount to policy disputes with the Biden administration—and clearly do not pass muster as legitimate grounds for impeachment under the Constitution.”

No grounds for the action

“There is no treason. There is no bribery. There is no high crime and misdemeanor,” Rep. Dan Goldman said. “You have two completely made-up accusations in a litany of articles of impeachment that simply recite policy disputes.”

Last year, Greene was similarly mocked for being unable to read out a number. “There is one million, five hundred and twenty-four, five hundred and twenty-four and four hundred eighty-one thous— this is over one million,” she said.

Greene slipped up right after complaining about the decline in mathematics proficiency among American schoolchildren. “Marjorie Taylor Greene, here showing her math illiteracy while speaking about math illiteracy is like a freakin SNL skit… only this is recorded in the Congressional Record for posterity,” one user commented on X.

Harsh comments

“She reminds me of when some creature in a horror movie kills a human and tries to wear their skin to blend in and has to learn how to act human,” one user commented on a Reddit post about Greene’s math mistake.
