50 Cent Criticizes NYC’s Migrant Family Pre-Paid Card Plan, Suggests Potential Support for Trump

Rapper 50 Cent recently voiced his dissatisfaction with New York City’s plan to spend millions on pre-paid credit cards for migrant families. He even hinted that this move could sway him to support Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

His comments followed a New York Post report on the Adams administration’s initiative, which involves distributing $53 million in pre-paid cards to asylum-seekers, starting with 500 families in temporary hotel accommodations, as an alternative to current food services, according to City Hall.

The New York Post added that the program’s pre-paid cards, designed for use only at bodegas, grocery stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores, require migrants to pledge through an affidavit to spend solely on food and baby supplies, or face removal from the program

His post read, “WTF mayor Adams call my phone, I don’t understand how this works. Somebody explain.” He also referenced his inability to get an explanation from MSNBC host Ari Melber, stating, “I’m stuck.”

He exclaimed, “WHAT THE F…! (VOTE ForTRUMP) IM OUT. F… NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway. I don’t care Trump doesn’t like black people 62% are you out of ya f…… mind.”

‘Immediate Response Card’

This ‘Immediate Response Card’ initiative resembles New York’s SNAP food stamp program, offering a similar credit card system for low-income residents.

Tailored to Family Needs

The card amount varies based on family size and income, with a family of four potentially receiving nearly $1,000 monthly, equating to $35 daily for food, recharged every 28 days.

Last year, similar cards were distributed to city housing residents for holiday meals.

MoCaFi CEO Wole Coaxum expressed enthusiasm about partnering with NYC to distribute these funds, aiming to aid those excluded from banking and boost the local economy.  The program, if successful, might extend to all 15,000 migrant families in hotels, as per city officials.

Saving Millions

“Not only will this provide families with the ability to purchase fresh food for their culturally relevant diets and the baby supplies of their choosing, but the pilot program is expected to save New York City more than $600,000 per month, or more than $7.2 million annually,” Adams spokesperson Kayla Mamelak stated.

Asylum Seekers’ Meals

Currently, New York City is spending approximately $11 per meal to feed migrant families in hotels, a longstanding issue given the diverse culinary preferences of asylum seekers from various regions.

Uneaten Meals

The issue was highlighted last month when DocGo was misusing funds on uneaten meals. Following this, migrants told The Post they preferred cooking in their hotel rooms due to the poor quality of provided meals.

This news about the pre-paid card program surfaced just a day after The Post reported another $137 million in contracts with city hotels for over 750 rooms for asylum-seeking families.

Count Continues to Rise

New York City now accommodates over 66,000 asylum seekers, with 1,500 more arriving last week, part of a crisis projected to cost $10 billion by 2025.
