Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert is encountering increased difficulties in her primary race due to dwindling support following her decision to run in a different district.
From 3rd to 4th District
Boebert, a staunch pro-Trump Republican, revealed in December her plans to seek reelection in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, switching from the 3rd District where she’s been serving since 2021.
Boebert in Fifth Place
In a straw poll following a debate in Fort Lupton, part of Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, on January 25, Representative Lauren Boebert ranked fifth. Garnering only 12 votes out of 100 from Republican voters, Boebert trailed behind Logan County Commissioner and ex-state Senator Jerry Sonnenberg, who led the poll with 22 votes.
Boebert Loses GOP Endorsements
Adding to Boebert’s challenges, three former Colorado GOP senators from the 4th District – Cory Gardner, Wayne Allard, and Hank Brown – threw their support behind Sonnenberg last Thursday.
GOP Divided
This endorsement is seen as a sign of division within the party, with Gardner praising Sonnenberg as a “passionate and dedicated warrior for our nation and our shared conservative values.”
Race Against Time
The endorsement of Jerry Sonnenberg by former Colorado GOP senators has left Representative Lauren Boebert in a position where she needs to urgently rally support in her new district, especially with the approaching June primary.
Powerful Backing
Sonnenberg noted the significance of these endorsements, stating, “Each of them knows the fourth district and understands the kind of principled leadership our community needs in Congress.”
Mike Johnson’s Endorsement
Boebert has received support from House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, who hailed her as a “relentless force for conservative governance.”
Growing Criticism
This development follows a period where Boebert has been increasingly criticized by voters, a sentiment echoed in a recent report by the Wall Street Journal that captured GOP voters’ negative views of the congresswoman.
A Calculated Risk?
While Boebert defends her move to switch districts as the “right decision for those who support our conservative movement,” many see it as a strategic play to sidestep tougher reelection prospects in the 3rd District.
Here, she faces a significant primary challenge from fellow Republican Jeff Hurd and a potentially tougher general election battle against Democrat Adam Frisch.
Rethinking Political Date Nights
Following a notorious date that caught national attention, Representative Lauren Boebert has humorously remarked to TMZ, “All future date nights have been canceled, and I learned to check party affiliations before you go on a date.”
Boebert’s Disruptive Date
This comes after Boebert and her date, Quinn Gallagher, were removed from the Buell Theatre in Denver for disruptive behavior during a Beetlejuice performance, which included vaping, singing along, recording, and being overly intimate, as confirmed by security footage.
A Clash of Beliefs and Behaviors
Boebert’s comment about political affiliations adds another layer to the story, as TMZ inferred that this was her first outing with Gallagher, an Aspen bar owner known for his Democrat leanings and hosting LGBTQ events.
This detail stands in contrast to Boebert’s controversial stance on drag queens and her propagation of unfounded fears about their influence on children.
Republican Discontent
Tammi Flemming, a Republican voter, expressed her dissatisfaction with Representative Lauren Boebert in a statement to the Wall Street Journal, saying, “On Facebook she’s not been well received by Republicans. It’s the shenanigans and the drama and moving districts.”
Harsh Words for Boebert
Judy Scofield, a retired university employee, expressed her views about Boebert to the newspaper, saying, “I don’t appreciate, as a Christian, people saying they’re Christian to get your vote and then turning out to be a lowlife. And now I just kind of think of her as a lowlife.”
Standing with Boebert
Not all feedback was negative. Mark Peters, another individual interviewed by the Journal, had a favorable view of Boebert. He praised her, stating, “Love Lauren Boebert…She’s stood up to Democrats on everything.”
