Posobiec, who has a reputation for online trolling, promoting conspiracy theories, and bombastic speech, clarified in a later address and an NBC News interview that his remarks were mostly satirical, mocking what he perceives as the undemocratic tendencies of President Joe Biden’s administration.
Democracy vs. ‘Their Democracy’
“We are always supportive of a constitutional republic,” he asserted on Friday, speaking for conservatives broadly. “What we’re trying to do is return it to the original system. We’re not destroying all of democracy, just their [Democrats’] democracy.”
Burning Down the Swamp
In his Friday speech, Posobiec maintained a tone suggestive of aggressive upheaval. “After we burn that swamp to the ground, we will establish the new American republic on its ashes, and our first order of business will be righteous retribution for those who betrayed America,” he emphatically stated.

His encouragement for the audience to ‘fight,’ along with his backing for ‘each and every J6-er,’ garnered widespread applause from the conference crowd, many of whom, in discussions with NBC News, stood by the Jan. 6 riot participants.

According to a recent Washington Post-University of Maryland poll, 25% of Americans think it’s ‘probably’ or ‘definitely’ true that the FBI initiated the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol assault, despite this being a baseless claim often propagated by right-wing outlets and denied by federal authorities.
Skepticism Towards Federal Narrative
The poll shows a smaller segment, 11%, convinced by ‘solid evidence’ of the FBI’s involvement, whereas 13% harbor only suspicions. Among Republicans, 34% endorse the idea of FBI orchestration, in contrast to 30% of independents and 13% of Democrats.
Valid Protest or Insurrection?
This narrative found an audience at CPAC, where attendees saw the Jan. 6 events as a valid, well-intentioned attempt to sway the election. The event also featured Jonathan Linowes’ Jan. 6-inspired pinball machine, which quickly became a talking point online.

Jonathan Linowes, when questioned about his presence on Jan. 6, remained evasive, saying, “I can’t say.” He also avoided a direct response about his desire for a repeat of that day, stating, “I think that we should all be exercising our right to free speech and gather.”

Tommy Tatum, known for his online discussions about being at the Capitol and confronting Capitol police, was representing the Jan. 6 Legal Defense Fund at CPAC. He openly supported the Jan. 6 actions, believing they achieved their intended purpose.
