Jesse Watters’ On-Air Mishap During Critique of Biden Backfires

Fox News host Jesse Watters had a taste of karma after mixing up South Dakota’s and South Carolina’s Governors right after blasting Biden’s “hazy memory” and “diminished faculties.”

How it started

Special counsel Robert Hur concluded that President Biden was a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” in an investigation regarding classified documents. While Joe Biden’s special counsel, Richard Sauber, was happy there were no criminal charges, everyone else got angry.

The President was furious, especially since the report mentioned he “did not remember when he was vice president” and “when his son died.” That last part got to the President, who blasted Hur, “How in the hell dare he raise that?” This was when the Fox Host introduced Governor Kristi Noem.

Watters declared, “South Carolina Governor Kristi Noem joins us now.” He continued, “And we’re gonna turn around some of the soundbites from that insane press conference we just witnessed where the president almost looked like he was going to jump across and hit somebody for asking him a question.”

The Fox News host continued, “And I think he is reserving a little something special for the Special Counsel Robert Hur, who just said to the American people that the president has issues mentally, uh, hazy memory, and diminished faculties.” Noem did not correct him, and it does not appear that Watters noticed he made a gaffe.

Social media users had fun

Harry Sisson posted the clip of Watters and wrote, “LOL: just seconds after attacking Biden for his age, Fox News host Jesse Watters called Kristi Noem the governor of South Carolina, not South Dakota. Everyone! Jesse Watters has dementia!!! Am I doing this right, Republicans? Isn’t this what you do?”

More joined the party

The account Biden-Harris HQ wrote next to the clip, “Seconds after trying to criticize President Biden’s memory, Fox host Jesse Watters refers to Kristi Noem as the governor of ‘South Carolina,’ not South Dakota.”

Journalists had a blast

Justin Baragona of the Daily Beast shared the same clip and added the caption, “After mocking Biden for his press conference where he addressed questions about his memory, Fox News host Jesse Watters then welcomes on ‘South Carolina Governor Kristi Noem.'” He added, “She’s, of course, the governor of South Dakota.”

Karma

One poster replied to Baragona’s post, “Sounds about like karma moved swiftly to Jesse.” That was an interesting choice of words, considering Watters recently suggested that Taylor Swift was a Pentagon “psyop.” He also wondered, “Is Swift a front for a covert political agenda?”

More on the gaffe

One user, murphyb849, expressed she feels “schadenfreude” or pleasure derived by someone from another person’s misfortune. She added, “Nuclear level.” Another wrote, “Karma, damn.” But this was not the first time the host got confused while mocking Biden’s mental state.

Iraq and Ukraine

Watters tried to mock Biden’s gaffe from 2022, where the President mixed up Iraq and Ukraine only to get confused himself. Watters flopped when he commented that the president “comes out and confusing Iraq with Afghanistan.” He added, “Fine, just don’t send Iran $800B,” which was the sum sent to Ukraine.

Hur’s report caused adverse reactions

The report said, “It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him” due to his “hazy” and “faulty” memory. Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann slammed the report due to “entirely inappropriate” remarks.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed Hur, a Trump appointee, to oversee the DOJ’s investigation into Biden’s classified documents. Weissmann had a message for him, “You either decide to go forward that there is proof here, or you don’t say anything at all with respect to your opinions about the case.”

“Political gift” to Trump

Dave Aronberg, the state attorney for Palm Beach County, called the report a “political gift” to Trump. CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin blasted Hur’s report as a “disgrace,” adding, “The idea that they that he would make such a big point of Biden being elderly is not something a prosecutor needed to do.”
