During a court hearing, Rudy Giuliani, former Trump’s personal attorney and former NYC Mayor, said that the Trump campaign never paid him $2 million, which he reportedly earned for his work after the 2020 election.
Giuliani’s claims
During a New York bankruptcy court hearing on Wednesday, Giuliani said that Trump asked him to “take over” his campaign legal staff in November 2020. This was at the same time Trump lost the elections, and Guiliani claimed, “At that point, he had a tremendous number of complaints that there had been fraud in the election.”
Guliani continued explaining his situation
The attorney, who recently declared bankruptcy, further shared, “Once I took over, it was my understanding that I would be paid by the campaign for my legal work and my expenses to be paid.” He added, “When we submitted the invoice for payment, they just paid the expenses. Not all, but most. They never paid the legal fees.” Though he never calculated the sum, Guiliani said it was around $2 million.
Guiliani’s finances suffered a blow in December
Following his loss in a defamation case brought on by two election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the ex-American Mayor was ordered to pay $148 million in damages. But, it is believed that the lawyer struggled even before the verdict since he listed his Manhattan apartment for sale in July and started representing himself, likely to avoid additional legal costs.
Going to Trump
It was reported that Guiliani begged Trump to help with his legal fees. He even asked social media users to assist with the legal fees following the Georgia indictment in August 2023. Reports claim that Trump hosted a $ 100,000-a-plate diner in September to help Guiliani.
More money issues
Guiliani has pending cases brought on by electronic voting machine companies Smartmatic and Dominion. Dominion’s settlement with Fox News was $ 787 million, which spells more money issues for the former NYC Mayor. He also owes money to Hunter Biden, the President’s son,
$148m penalty
Guiliani was ordered to pay $148m in damages after two election workers sued him for defamation. The defamation was related to the ex-mayor’s lies against two women following Trump’s election loss in 2020. The mother and daughter, Freeman and Moss, claimed their lives were ruined due to racist threats and harassment.
Moss post the jury’s verdict
Following the four-day trial and the verdict that proved the lawyer’s defamation, Moss said, “The flame that Giuliani lit with those lies and passed to so many others to keep that flame blazing changed every aspect of our lives, our homes, our family, our work, our sense of safety, our mental health.”
Almost $40,000 in golf fees
According to the court filings, Guilliani has $40,000 in golf club membership fees, including $647 to Trump International Golf Club. Several of Giuliani’s former attorneys, including his longtime lawyer Robert Costello, sued Giuliani for failing to pay their legal fees. Costello alleged Guiliani owed his $1.36 million in legal fees.
More lawsuits
A former employee, Noelle Dunphy, sued the man called America’s Mayor, alleging assault and abuse. Ted Goodman, a representative for Giuliani, said that the relationship was “consensual” and added it was “disappointing” to see the media going after Giuliani, who “cleaned up New York City, took down the Mafia and comforted the nation following September 11.”
Nothing against Trump
Bloomberg Law pointed out that Giuliani told his creditors at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York that this was not about Trump owing Guiliani money but the Trump campaign and the Republican National Campaign.
Giuliani’s debts
Following the defamation ruling, Giuliani estimated his debts to be between $100 million and $500 million, while he claimed to only have $10 million in assets. The Post reported that the ex-Mayor has a $700,000 IRS tab and an additional $260,000 bill he owes the New York State tax authorities.
“Nothing to hide”
Following the hearing, Guiliani told reporters, “I have nothing to hide,” and added that his trustee is “very thorough .. she asked all the right questions, and I gave her all the information I had.”
