President Joe Biden shared what the world leaders told him about Trump’s possible second term. The President spoke about this several times in the past months, but his message was always the same.
Biden in South Carolina
While at the Brookland Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, the President reminded the congregation, “I’ve been doing foreign policy for a long, long time.” He continued, “I know every one of those heads of state, and I’ve known them for a while.”
“You’ve gotta Win”
The former Vice President further shared about Trump’s second term, “Every meeting I go to internationally, as they’re walking out, this is the God’s truth […] virtually every one of them pull me aside and says, ‘You’ve got to win. We can’t let that happen again. You can’t let that happen again. You can’t let that happen again.”
The elections are more significant than “you and me”
The President, who is polling behind Trump despite over 90 charges, including alleged election interference and alleged mishandling of classified documents, repeated that “democracy is on the ballot,” adding that the 2024 election “is a lot bigger than me, you and all of us.”
Biden in Philadelphia
In December, during a Philadelphia event, Biden told the attendees, “There’s not an international event that I’ve attended – not one – where the rest of the world doesn’t come up to me – leaders, no matter what country they’re from – and say, You can’t let him win. You can’t let him win.”
Canada expressed “uncertainty”
Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau revealed in mid-January that the government is preparing for a potential Trump second term in the White House. Trudeau said that Trump represents “uncertainty,” adding, “We don’t know exactly what he is going to do.”
They managed it once
Trudeau continued, “We made it through the challenges represented by the Trump administration seven years ago, for four years, where we put forward the fact that Canada and the U.S. do best when we do it together.” Canada’s PM cited several “difficult” instances during Trump’s presidency.
NATO chief on Trump’s years
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg admitted in 2021 that the alliance had a “challenging” relationship with the Trump administration and that there had been many “difficult” conversations with the 45th president.
Macron did not complain
French President Emmanuel Macron answered diplomatically when asked about the U.S. elections. Macron said, “I’ve always had the same philosophy: I take the leaders that people give me.”
Tumultuous relationship
Macron and Trump started as friends, but their relationship reportedly deteriorated due to their different stances on climate change, taxes, and Trump’s overall attitude toward European allies.
Trump’s popularity among former U.S. presidents
Obama said in 2018, “I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my policies,” adding, “I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously, that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care.” Obama concluded that he never did.
Clinton on Trump
Bill Clinton, who also served two terms in the Oval Office, called out Trump in 2020, “Donald Trump says we’re leading the world. Well, we are the only major industrial economy to have its unemployment rate triple.” He added, “There’s only chaos” in Trump’s White House.
The Bush family
While both GOP presidents tried to avoid commenting on Trump, according to the N.Y. Times, George W. Bush had no intention of voting, let alone endorsing Trump. Politico reported that the Bush family has “a lot of angst” about Trump. Still, the funeral “is not a political event,” so Trump was invited to Bush Sr.’s funeral.
