The Governor said that we must stop “the magnet that is inciting people to cross our border illegally.” Abbot said that people are coming from over 150 countries, and to get things under control, he would “deny asylum.” He added that if someone has a “valid asylum claim,” they go to one of the “ports of entry, which we have 29” in Texas alone.

The Texas Governor also said the second thing to consider would be to obey the existing law that already prohibits the “mass allowance of people getting out and wandering into the country for years before they even have to go to court.” He continued by saying the Biden administration must be held responsible and “deny them the ability to have a catch-and-release” policy.

Abbott sent letters to Biden

The Governor said he “provided eight letters to the Biden administration” and personally handed them to the President and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorka while in El Paso. In the letters, Abbott outlined “five things that they could do that would eliminate the crisis at the border.” Still, the Texas Governor alleged he never heard a response.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams filed a $708 million lawsuit against 17 charter bus and transportation companies transporting migrants from Texas to New York City. Abbott responded, “The lawsuit is completely legally baseless, and the Mayor is going to lose very badly for this very specific reason. And that is: Everybody bussed to or (air) planed to New York is already authorized by the Biden administration to be within the United States legally.”

The Mayor said, “New York City has and will always do our part to manage this humanitarian crisis, but we cannot bear the costs of reckless political ploys from the state of Texas alone.”

Adams confirmed the lawsuit and called out the Texas Governor, claiming it was “Governor Abbott’s scheme to transport tens of thousands of migrants to New York City in an attempt to overwhelm our social services system.”

Abbott believes Adams should sue Biden

Talking to Fox News’s Shannon Bream, the Governor of Texas said that Adams should sue Joe Biden instead of the bus companies. Abbott said the lawsuit was a “joke” and a “political statement,” adding, “It’s Joe Biden and Joe Biden’s policies that are causing the massive multi-million influx” of migrants into the country.

The Justice Department sued Texas over a recent law that would allow police to arrest migrants crossing the border illegally. This lawsuit represents a pushback from Democratic cities fighting an influx of migrants. In another lawsuit, Texans are fighting to keep razor wire on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Texas governor defended his state by saying they enforce the laws Congress has already passed. The Texas law allows for immigrants to be removed from the country.

Abbott sees no conflict

Talking to Fox, the Governor said, “The State of Texas law does not conflict with federal law. And hence, that’s one reason why we will avoid the preemption allegation made by the federal government.” He added that “the federal government is refusing to enforce the laws passed by Congress.”

In conclusion, the Texas governor said, “Because they are not enforcing the laws passed by Congress, the law that we passed simply enforces the laws passed by Congress.”

Since August 2022, Texas sent busses with over 33,000 migrants to the Big Apple. Recently, it was announced that 300,000 migrants entered the US in December alone. Apart from New York City, migrants were sent to Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and other sanctuary cities.
