We now have a driveway and parking at the cottage

We had a productive weekend at the rental cottage. Gravel was delivered to make a driveway, and the locks on the entry doors were changed. There is still a lot to do, but we are making progress.

Work Weekend

The purpose of heading to the cottage was to get some work done before the weather turns too bad. Saturday morning, we had ten yards of gravel delivered, so that we could make a driveway and a parking area to the side of the house.

The old driveway was grown over and basically gone. We had to get fresh gravel to avoid a muddy mess for our guests. The delivery driver tailgated the load the best he could, but I still had a fair amount of work to do. It took a few hours, but I was able to get everything spread out.

Afterwards, I changed out the old locks and replaced them with smart locks. Since we are doing a short-term rental, we need a lock that can be linked to WIFI so we can provide an entry code to guests. The lock installs like any lock, so it was a quick job. I had the job completed in less than a half hour.

Finally, I finished a fire pit area in the back yard with some large stones. It will be the perfect spot for entertaining and relaxing come next Summer.

Odds and Ends

The rest of the weekend was spent exploring the area and doing some research on local contractors, hardware stores, and lumber mills. We’ll be needed the services of all of them, so we wanted to know where things were.

We also met some people in the area. A nice couple who we met invited us over to their cabin for drinks, and we had breakfast with them on Saturday morning. It’s good to get to know some of the neighbors.

Looking Ahead

We still need to complete furnishing the cottage, and there is still the matter of obtaining a permit to build a deck. Next year we hope to get a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of the house, and we’ll be doing some interior work as time permits. Despite all that is still left to do it was a productive weekend. Until next time.
