While he might be one of the most polarizing figures in politics, Donald Trump gave us some memorable moments, borderline hilarious, during his presidency and even once he was out of the White House. Some are well-known, others forgotten, but they are amusing, mostly in theory.
Terror in Sweden
At the beginning of his presidency, on January 21, 2017, Trump attacked migrants and hinted there was a terrorist attack in Sweden. During his Florida speech, he said, “You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this? Sweden!” In response, Sweden said, “No. Nothing has happened here in Sweden. There have not been any terrorist attacks here. At all. The main news right now is about Melfest.”
Total eclipse
In August 2017, there was a total eclipse of the Sun. This event gathered attention across the US, with ophthalmologists urging people not to stare at the Sun without protection. But Trump, being Trump, was photographed proudly doing what ophthalmologists begged people not to do…
Piece of cake
In April 2017, Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the official dinner, the then-POTUS ordered a Syrian airbase to be destroyed. Asked about the evening, Trump said, “We had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you’ve ever seen, and President Xi was enjoying it.” He continued, “So what happens is I said [to President Xi] we’ve just launched 59 missiles heading to Iraq, and I wanted you to know this.” Syria, not Iraq, and it was all about the piece of cake.
The perfect phone call
In the true spirit of Christmas, Trump called children, and though his intentions were pure, her mouth was faster. Trump asked a girl, 7, if she still believed in Santa Claus. He added, “Because, at seven, it’s marginal, right?” Wrong…
POTUS vs. adult movie actress
Before the 2016 elections, a story broke out alleging that Trump slept with an adult movie actress just after his wife Melania gave birth. Stormy Daniels became the talk of the town, but the incident was revisited in October 2018. Long story short, Trump, then President of the United States and leader of the free world, shared, “Now I can go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer in the Great State of Texas.” She responded on Twitter, “Game on, Tiny.”
Shopping for Greenland
Trump, always the businessman, suggested, jokingly, that he wanted to buy Danish Greenland. This almost caused an international incident, with the Danish government responding that it is “rich in valuable resources such as minerals, the purest water and ice, fish stocks, seafood, renewable energy and is a new frontier for adventure tourism. We’re open for business, not for sale.”
Ongoing mystery
In 2017, the 45th president posted on then-Twitter, “Despite the negative press covfefe.” A year later, the “Do you hear ‘Yanny” or ‘Laurel'” took over social media, and Trump responded, “All I hear is covfefe.” Clearly, Trump can take a joke.
Tiny hands Trump
Marco Rubio complained that then GOP presidential rival Donald Trump is “always calling me ‘little Marco.'” He joked about his height compared to Trump’s, adding, “Have you seen his hands? And you know what they say about men with small hands.” After this, Trump repeatedly mentioned his hands, including telling supporters, “Look at those hands. Are they small hands? And he referred to my hands — if they are small, something else must be small.” He added, “I guarantee you there is no problem.” Talk about oversharing…
Covid-19 disaster
During the White House briefing in April 2020, Trump urged top health officials to study the injection of bleach to beat the virus. His other suggestion was exposing the body to the “ultraviolet” or “just very powerful light” and bringing “the light inside the body.” Biden’s campaign aide commented that even for Trump, this was “insane and dangerous.”
Water is wet
During the Hurricane Florence disaster, Trump thanked people for helping and told reporters that this hurricane was “one of the wettest we’ve ever seen, from the standpoint of water.”
Never indicted
Trump, who has been indicted four times, told a reporter, “We did nothing wrong. This is all Biden’s stuff … I was never indicted. You practically never heard the word.” But what’s with that “Never Surrender” merch following Trump’s surrender in Atlanta?
Easy D
Trump posted on social media, “Big increase in traffic into our country from certain areas, while our people are far more vulnerable, as we wait for what should be EASY D!” To this day, it is unclear if this was “easy decision” or something else.
Charlie Hebdo tragedy
While the world was trying to grasp the tragedy that hit Charlie Hebdo in France, Trump tweeted, “If the morons who killed all of those people at Charlie Hebdo would have just waited, the magazine would have folded – no money, no success!.” The number of people killed in January 2015 was 12, but for Trump, it appears it was business as usual.
Prince of Whales
King Charles III was also a “target” of Trumpism. In 2019, Donald Trump posted he talks with “foreign governments” daily, including the “Prince of Whales.”
Anger Management
In 2019, the then-POTUS had a fight with a teenage girl. Greta Thunberg, then 16, got told off by Trump to “work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend!” The 45th president added, “Chill Greta, Chill!” The teen activist won because instead of taking the bait, she changed her bio, which read she was working on anger while “chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”
Meet the President
In 2017, Trump met with the “president of the Virgin Islands.” following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the President said, “I will tell you I left Texas and I left Florida and I left Louisiana and I went to Puerto Rico and I met with the president of the Virgin Islands.” The problem? Well, he would be the Virgin Islands president…
Makes sense
During a rally in Gilbert, a woman fainted. The then-presidential candidate told the crowd, “Maybe she fainted at how good-looking I am.” But, in Nevada, Trump was more sensitive and stopped everything to make sure the woman who also fainted was okay. He had to Trump it up, “She’s surrounded by doctors – no thanks to Obamacare.”
Soup wars
In 2020, Trump talked about protestors throwing soup at the police. The 45th POTUS explained, “That’s better than a brick because you can’t throw a brick; it’s too heavy. But a can of soup, you can really put some power into that, right? And then when they get caught, they say, ‘No, this is soup for my family.’”
Obama on his mind
Trump said in D.C. he was leading against Obama and repeated the former two-times elected president’s name in Iowa. Trump defended it by saying he knows the names and “they are destroying our Country.” Biden’s adviser fired back, “Is that also his explanation for not knowing World War II happened? Or that Turkey’s a different country than Hungary?” That all happened in 2023.
All about US
In Derry, New Hampshire, Trump declared, “Trump: I’m for us. You know how you spell us, right? U.S. I just picked that up. Has anyone ever thought of that before? I’m reading and said us. You know, when you think about it, us, equals U.S. If we think of something genius, they will never say it.” No wonder he stated in 2016, “I love the poorly educated.”
