Vice President Kamala Harris responded to Donald Trump’s allegations that President Joe Biden is behind his escalating legal troubles and accusations that Biden is meddling in the 2024 election.
A Baseless Claim?
During a sit-down with CNN’s Laura Coates in January, Harris was asked for her thoughts on the former president’s contentious remarks. “There is someone right now, if the polling is correct, has 91 counts, four different jurisdictions with different indictments and different cases against him, who could very well be the Republican nominee,” Coates said.
Trump’s Growing Legal Woes
She continued, “And yet he is attacking you and President Biden for election interference. He believes that what the Justice Department is doing is only attributed to you, but also is election interference.”
In response, Harris expressed her belief that Americans value honesty and truth.
Truth vs. Lies in America
“I do believe in my travels around our country that, for example, a statement that suggests that insurrectionists who attacked our Capitol and committed acts of violence should not be called patriots, as the former president has done,” Harris further commented.
Jan. 6th Attackers Not Patriots
Vice President Kamala Harris reinforced her point, stating, “The people who attacked on January 6th should not be called patriots. That what they did is they attacked our Capitol, they committed acts of violence, and they need to be taken in to account and held accountable for those acts.”
“So, these are just facts, and we are going to see what happens in terms of any cases that are being litigated in the court of law.”
Separation of Powers
When CNN’s Laura Coates pressed for a more direct response regarding the claim that Biden’s DOJ is influencing the charges, Harris clarified, “Listen, everyone who is paying close attention understands that there is a clear and non-negotiable division in terms of the separation between our administration and what the Department of Justice does in terms of its investigations, in terms of its prosecutions.”
“That line has never been crossed.”
Claims Lack Factual Basis?
When Laura Coates asked for a response to those who might believe Trump’s claims about the Biden administration, Vice President Harris responded decisively, “What he is saying is not factual. Period. Period. And that would not be new for him, would it?”
Biden: A Threat to Democracy?
This follows a report by OK! where Trump, in a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, labeled President Biden an “absolute threat to democracy.” Hannity raised the issue with Trump about Colorado and Maine excluding him from their presidential ballots, referring to a constitutional clause against those involved in insurrection from holding office.
‘It’s kind of ironic’
Hannity pointed out the irony, saying, “It’s kind of ironic, isn’t it? A party that is making an argument that democracy is in peril couldn’t be more undemocratic as they try to remove your name from even running and even having your name on the ticket.”
Trump Confident in Supreme Court
Trump, currently embroiled in two criminal cases for allegedly undermining American democracy, insisted that the Supreme Court would not deny the people’s vote. Following his victory in the Iowa Republican caucuses, he continued, “Biden is a threat to democracy. He’s an absolute threat to democracy. He’s very dangerous for a couple of reasons.”
‘He’s grossly incompetent’
Elaborating on why he considers Biden a threat to democracy, Trump first pointed to Biden’s “gross incompetence.” However, he quickly shifted focus, stating, “Actually, in his own way, it’s not him, it’s the people that surround him.”
Biden’s Inner Circle
The 77-year-old GOP nominee added, “He’s got some very bad people surrounding him at that desk. You have people running the Department of Justice surrounding him. They’re young and they’re smart and they are communists, and they’re Marxists, they’re fascists, and they’re running this country. They’re running it right into the ground.”
