Tucker Carlson responds on whether he’ll interview Putin while in Russia

After former Fox News host Tucker Carlson was spotted in the Russian capital, Moscow, rumors started circulating that he was there to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin. Carlson vaguely responded, and Marjorie Taylor Greene rushed to defend the ex-Fox host, while Adam Kinzinger did just the opposite.

The host was spotted during Spartacus’s performance in the Bolshoi Theatre. According to reports, Carlson arrived in Russia on February 1st. Following the images confirming he was in Moscow, people started speculating whether he would interview Vladimir Putin.

Greene wrote on X, “Democrats and their propagandists in the media are spasming at the prospect of Tucker Carlson interviewing Putin.” However, Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger shared on X polling with a question, “Is Tucker Carlson on Putin’s payroll?” In another post, he called Carlson a “traitor.”

Izvestia, a Russian paper, posted a video of Carlson answering whether he’s visiting to interview Russia’s President. The host said, “We’ll see.” The video further shows Carlson talking to the person behind the camera about how his visit to Russia “blew up” in the States and adding that Moscow is “a beautiful city.”

Carlson reportedly already asked to interview the Russian President

According to Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of RT, Carlson already asked to interview Putin in August last year. Simonyan called Carlson “the most popular host in all of U.S. history.”

Doing a great job

In the same interview, Simonyan said, “Tucker is doing a great job. By the way, he’s really asking for an interview with Vladimir Putin! It would be great if someone hears this and gets this message to the President.”

After he was let go from Fox News in April 2023, Vladimir Solovyov from Russia-1 wrote on Telegram, “Tucker, come join us. You don’t have to be afraid of taking the p… out of Biden here.” R.T. spokesperson told Newsweek they would welcome Carlson, but whether it would be as a guest or a host is unclear.

Speaking to Swiss outlet Die Weltwoche, published in September, Carlson reportedly said, “I tried to interview Vladimir Putin, and the U.S. government stopped me.” He continued, “You’re not allowed to hear Putin’s voice. Because why? There was no vote on it. No one asked me. I’m 54 years old. I’ve paid my taxes and followed the law.”

The former Fox News host added, “Nobody defended me. I don’t think there was anybody in the news media who said, ‘Wait a second. I may not like this guy, but he has a right to interview anyone he wants, and we have a right to hear what Putin says.'”

Kremlin is reserved

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, simply stated, “We can hardly be expected to provide information on the movement of foreign journalists.” He added, “We have nothing to announce in terms of the president’s interviews to foreign media.”

In 2022, Carlson said on Fox, “Vladimir Putin is not losing the war in Ukraine. He is winning the war in Ukraine, and Joe Biden looks at that and says we won’t stop until you proffer an unconditional surrender.” However, his comments about the Ukrainian President had people wondering.

While the Ukrainian President addressed the Congress in December 2022, Carlson observed that he was dressed “like the manager of a strip club.”

“Sweaty and rat-like”

In 2023, on X, Carlson slammed Zelenskyy, who is Jewish, calling him “Sweaty and rat-like, a comedian turned oligarch, a persecutor of Christians, a friend of (U.S. investment giant) BlackRock.”

“An epochal event”

Politico published that a Telegram channel, reportedly close to the authorities, wrote, “Without exaggerating, it is safe to say that we are in for an epochal event.” It added, “Be assured, this time Putin will be heard by many in the West.”
