Joe Tacopina and two lawyers from the same firm left Trump’s New York cases, and Michael Cohen, former Trump’s lawyer and fixer, shared his thoughts, as did many others.

Nothing New

Cohen, who is one of Trump’s harshest critics, talked to Newsweek and stated this was nothing new for his former boss, explaining, “Finding competent counsel has plagued Donald for many years now due to his erratic legal requests and delinquent payment history.”

Bleak Outcome

“The cases coming to fruition are all significant and require expertise in handling by legitimate attorneys, not small-claims litigators or parking lot attorneys. Donald’s outcome remains bleak,” Cohen added.

“Never switch horses mid-stream”

Former district attorney in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, Matthew Mangino, reminded of the old saying, “Never switch horses mid-stream.” Mangnino explained that Trump’s case is different “than your typical litigant” because he’s “also running for president and for political reasons wants to grandstand and play the victim—’ everyone is out to get me, even my own lawyers.'”

Trump’s Niece Also Shared Her Views

Mary Trump, the estranged niece of the 45th president, wrote a blog post titled “Donald’s Iowa Victory Undermined.” She said, “Typically, legal counsel develops a theory of the case in order to help guide preparation. This close to trial, lawyers will have spent hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours compiling evidence and gaining an understanding of the nuances of the case.”

Starting From Scratch

“New lawyers might not have to start from scratch, but catching up would be difficult. Donald may have scored a win with his cult in the Iowa caucus today, but in terms of the stakes of him remaining a free man, his loss of counsel may be much more relevant going forward,” Mary Trump added.

X Users Had Their Fun

Trump’s critics took to X to share their thoughts, with an account of Occupy Democrats writing, “It looks like the rats are fleeing the sinking ship. He is like a football team losing their star quarterback right before the Superbowl.”

All That Winning

An account titled Boston Smalls wrote on X: “I see another Trump lawyer quit. Hey Maga, remember when Trump was running for president, and he was like, ‘We’re gonna win so much you’re gonna get tired of winning?’ How’s that working out?”

Tacopina’s Filing

Tacopina wrote in the filing, “I respectfully submit this Declaration in support of (Tacopina Seigel and DeOreo’s) motion, made pursuant to Local Civil Rule 27.1, to withdraw as counsel (including TSD attorneys Joseph Tacopina, Chad D. Seigel, and Matthew G. DeOreo) for Trump, with such other and further relief as the Court deems just and proper.”

Unknown Reasons

It is unclear what made the trio leave Trump. However, the former president’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, told The New York Times he “has the most experienced, qualified, disciplined, and overall strongest legal team ever assembled.” There were no further comments regarding the departures of Tacopina Seigel and DeOreo.
