Following the New York fraud case verdict that ordered Trump to pay around $355 million, Trump supporters started a GoFundMe page, “Stand With Trump.”
Behind GoFundMe page for Trump
Elena Cardone, the wife of real estate investor and influencer Grant Cardone, started the GoFundMe for the billionaire former president. She wrote on X, “Stand with Trump; Fund the $355M Unjust Judgment,” and shared the link to the fundraising page.
Trump risked everything
The page states how the likely GOP nominee and 45th US president “fought tirelessly for this country, risking everything to preserve the freedoms and principles that define us as a nation.” In her description, Cardone explained that she saw “unprecedented and unfair treatment by certain judicial elements in New York.”
Cardone’s husband shared her initiative
On X, Grant Cardone wrote that his wife started the page to “fund the UNJUST judgment” against Trump. He added, “Give something & DEMONSTRATE that the people of America are standing together against unjust rulings like this where a bias judges & corrupt legal system is out of control.”
Laura Loomer’s warning
Trump loyalist, Laura Loomer, wrote that GoFundMe is “anti Trump and liberal.” She added, “Go Fund Me is notorious for banning conservative campaigns.” and suggested another fundraising page for the cause.
Justice Arthur Engoron’s ruling
The Judge ordered Trump to pay $354,868,768 plus interest, which many estimated would go up to $450 million. Trump and his companies were found liable in a years long scheme to deceive banks and others with financial statements that inflated his wealth. Trump was also banned from running any New York corporation or entity for three years, while his sons, Eric and Don Jr., were prohibited for two years.
Trump blasted the verdict
The former president wrote on Truth Social, “This ‘decision’ is a Complete and Total SHAM. There were No Victims, No Damages, No Complaints. Only satisfied Banks and Insurance Companies (which made a ton of money), GREAT Financial Statements, that didn’t even include the most valuable Asset – The TRUMP Brand.”
Trump will appeal
The 45th president declared, “We’ll appeal, and we’ll be successful.” While talking to the reporters, Trump called AG Laetitia James “corrupt” and the Judge “crooked.” He also commented that he was ordered “a fine of 350 million for doing a perfect job.”
Eric Trump also voiced his opinion
Trump’s second oldest son, Eric Trump, also blasted the Judge, saying, “He knows that every single witness testified to that fact that I had absolutely NOTHING to do with this case (as INSANE as the case truly is).” He continued by calling him a “cruel man” and added that the verdict was “political vengeance by a judge out to get my father.”
Cardone’s page attracted social media users
One user, whose handle is @lisa_liberal, stated, “They have a GoFundMe account now for Trump. Who Forbes claims is worth $2.6B, but don’t you dare call it a cult.” Journalist Victoria Brownworth wondered on X, “Trump told us he was a billionaire. Why does he need a GoFundMe from Scientologists?”
In disbelief
“Let me get this straight, someone started a GoFundMe for the over $300 million that Trump owes, and people have actually contributed to it? My god, the MAGAs are truly some of the dumbest people on this planet,” wrote user @BlueOC1981 on X. Another person, @lflorepolitics, “Wait… Wut.. Donald Trump, a supposed billionaire business man has a GoFundMe page?? The only thing more pathetic than this are his cult members, who will actually help fund him by sending him money. Sad!”
Questioning terms of use
Several users pointed out this was against the GoFundMe terms of use, with @GSanseviero asking, “Hey @gofundme, should we check your terms of service for a violation here???” Another person, @BagdMilkSoWhat, stated, “This is a violation of GoFundMe’ TOS. I encourage everyone to report this.”
James is pleased
The Attorney General, Letitia James, brought the charges in 2022, citing that the Trump organization “knowingly and intentionally created more than 200 false and misleading valuations of assets on his annual Statements of Financial Condition to defraud financial institutions” between 2011 and 2021.
James’s statement
The AG said, “For years, Donald Trump engaged in massive fraud to unjustly enrich himself, his family, and his organization,” adding, “He may have authored The Art of the Deal, but he perfected the art of the steal. Now, he is finally facing the consequences of his illegal actions.”
