In a recent development, former President Donald Trump, who is also a leading candidate in the GOP primaries, vehemently criticized a court order that requires him to pay a massive $355 million penalty after being found guilty of inflating his financial worth.
America Falling Behind Globally?
“If this persecution of political opponents continues, no one will want to do business in the United States of America any longer,” Trump emphasized at a rally in Waterford Township, Michigan, on Saturday.
“We will truly become a third world country . . . We are already, in many ways, if you look at our border. We are worse than a third world country.”
Trump’s Lack of Remorse
Judge Engoron barred Trump from holding any officer or director role in New York corporations for three years, criticizing Trump and his co-defendants for their apparent lack of remorse.
Trump Slams U.S. Airports’ Quality
“Trump didn’t just criticize the courts; he also pointed to the country’s airports as evidence of America’s decline. “We’re like a third world nation. Look at our airports,” he said, questioning the quality of U.S. airports.
Alleged Fascist Influence
In his speech, Trump also launched a fervent critique of President Biden, claiming without evidence that he’s under fascist influence.
According to Politico, Trump started his address with a fiery 15-minute rant against the legal system.
Judge Is Part of a ‘Left-Wing’ Plot
In his first public appearance since facing hefty financial penalties from Justice Arthur Engoron, Trump claimed, without evidence, that the judge was part of a ‘left-wing’ plot to thwart his presidential ambitions.
‘Repulsive’ Misuse of Power
Speaking to a Michigan audience, the leading Republican contender for the presidential nomination described these actions as ‘repulsive abuses of power’ and an attack on all Americans. He also reiterated his unfounded assertion that he lost the 2020 election to President Biden due to election fraud.
GOP’s Strategy in Michigan
With Michigan playing a pivotal role in November’s election, the state’s Republicans are using a dual approach for delegate allocation: a primary on February 27th and a caucus on March 2nd.
Confusion Over Primary Dates
Trump, eager to rally support in this crucial battleground, encouraged his followers to participate in these nominating events.
However, he mixed up the dates while addressing the crowd, saying, “Remember the primary is Tuesday February 27th. We need to get out and vote to set the stage for November. Go vote. November 27th.”
Is Mail-In Voting Truly ‘Corrupt’?
Trump also reiterated his opposition to early voting and criticized mail-in voting, a method popular among Democrats. Trump’s firm stance against mail-in voting has raised concerns among some Republicans, who fear it might deter party members from voting.
‘Mail-in voting is totally corrupt. Get that through your head,’ Trump declared.
Trump Launches Sneaker Brand
Prior to his Michigan rally, Trump attended a sneaker convention in Philadelphia, unveiling his own sneaker brand featuring gold tops and American flag logos. “I’ve wanted to do this a long time,” he said, before urging young people to vote.
Legal Blow in Carroll Case
The $355 million blow to Trump’s legal standing followed the substantial $83.3 million in extra damages awarded to columnist E. Jean Carroll. She claims her reputation was tarnished by Trump labeling her a liar after she accused him of sexual assault.
‘Absolutely ridiculous!’
Carroll was seen smiling as the verdict was announced, while Trump had already departed in his motorcade. He blasted the verdict as “Absolutely ridiculous!” and pledged to appeal, criticizing the legal system as “out of control” and a tool for political vendettas.
