Donald Trump, the former U.S. president, marked his first political journey of the year to Iowa with incisive remarks targeting not only Democratic President Joe Biden but also fellow Republican Nikki Haley.

Earlier Friday in Pennsylvania, President Biden had characterized Trump as a significant risk to the country and a threat to democracy.

The president said that Trump “told the crowd to fight like hell. And all hell was unleashed. Then, as usual, he left the dirty work to others. He retreated to the White House.”

Biden argued that Trump drew parallels to Nazi Germany when he used the term “vermin” to describe his opponents and compared him to a potential dictator capable of causing harm to the United States if re-elected in November.

In response, Trump painted a gloomy picture of the current state under Biden’s administration, describing the U.S. as a “failing” nation plagued by terrorists and immigrants from mental asylums flooding across the U.S.-Mexico border.

In an earlier interview with Fox News, the former president said, “Joe Biden is a true threat to democracy. This is not a time for us to have a mentally challenged president.”

While addressing the Iowa crowd, Trump briefly touched upon the January 6 Capitol attack. He reiterated his unproven claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 elections, a stance that has remained a cornerstone of his political narrative.

Nikki Haley a “Globalist”

Turning his attention to Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate and his former U.S. ambassador to the UN, Trump labeled her a “globalist” and accused her of being overly lenient on immigration issues.

Trump said, “Nikki Haley has been in the pocket of the open borders establishment donors her entire career.”

While Haley lags behind Trump by more than 30 points in Iowa, her performance is much more competitive in New Hampshire, the second contest in the Republican nomination process. In recent months, she has been gaining ground in opinion polls.

In response to Trump’s criticism, Nachama Soloveichik, Haley’s communications director, highlighted her firm stance on illegal immigration during her tenure as South Carolina’s governor.

Soloveichik said, “Donald Trump probably doesn’t remember that Nikki Haley passed one of the toughest anti-illegal immigration laws in the country in 2011 because he was still a New York City liberal.”
