On the third anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riot, the FBI has announced the arrest and federal custody of three individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
A Day of Arrests
January 6th became a crucial date in modern US history. Many Americans see January 6th as an example of excessive control, a view gaining traction with the upcoming 2024 election. Others see it as a tragedy because the rioters were not stopped before the casualties.
FBI Announces Capture of Jan. 6 “Fugitives”
The post on X, the FBI Tampa, read: “The FBI executed three federal arrest warrants early this morning at a ranch in Groveland, Florida, in Lake County. The subjects taken into custody are January 6 fugitives Jonathan Daniel Pollock, Olivia Michele Pollock, and Joseph Daniel Hutchinson III.”
“The defendants are scheduled to appear in Federal Court in Ocala, Florida, on Monday, January 8. No further details concerning their capture are available at this time.”
Three Years Later
Coinciding with the third anniversary of the attack on the Capitol, these arrests bring into focus the continuing legal challenges in managing the cases of the thousands who stormed the Capitol in an attempt to keep then-President Donald Trump in power.
Wanted by FBI
Jonathan Pollock is accused by federal authorities of participating in breaching a barricade and assaulting police officers during the Capitol incident. He allegedly grabbed one officer by the waist, pulled them downstairs, punched another in the face, and stole a police shield.
FBI’s $30,000 Reward for Arrest
Pollock has been a fugitive since then, with the FBI offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. According to the complaint, he had taken a few weeks off work for his trip to Washington, DC. Upon his return, he allegedly shared photos with his colleagues, bragging about his appearance in the news.
American Flag and Baton
The court filing states that Olivia Pollock, Jonathan Pollock’s sister, was identified wearing a white flag insignia, a green headband, and a similar vest. She was captured in footage carrying a flagpole with the American flag and is alleged to have taken a baton from an officer.
Sister’s previous arrest
His sister was previously arrested but failed to appear for her scheduled court date on March 6, 2023, and had been evading capture until this past weekend.
Florida Gun Shop
The Pollock family operates a gun shop in Lakeland, Florida, where Joseph Hutchinson works. Hutchinson is reportedly seen in footage punching an officer.
1,200 Charges and Counting
To date, over 1,200 individuals have been charged for their alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack, with more than 700 of them already pleading guilty, predominantly to misdemeanors like illegal picketing and property destruction.
450+ Officer Assault Charges
The Justice Department has charged over 1,200 people in relation to the Capitol riot, with more than 450 facing charges for assaulting or impeding officers and over 1800 charged for entering or remaining in a restricted federal building.
FBI’s “Most Wanted”
On the FBI’s ‘Most Wanted’ list, a significant number of images — amounting to thousands — showcase those accused of participating in the Capitol assault. Additionally, the pursuit continues for over 80 individuals linked to acts of violence at the Capitol.
