Former President Trump is throwing his support behind a campaign led by truckers, which involves stopping shipments to New York City in protest of the recent ruling on fraud charges.
10 Truckers for Boycotting Shipments
On Friday night, a pro-Trump trucker and prominent right-wing influencer, known online as Chicago Ray, shared a video on X (previously known as Twitter).
He stated that he’s communicated with “at least” 10 truckers prepared to “start refusing loads” bound for New York City.
Truckers’ Outrage Over $355M Fine
This action, as per Ray, is in response to a New York court’s decision, which mandates the former president to pay $355 million in damages, following the Trump Organization’s conviction of financial fraud.
Ray asserts that Trump backs these truckers’ initiatives.
Trump Cheers Truckers
“Such an honor to have so many Great Patriots on the side of FREEDOM!” Trump expressed on his platform, Truth Social, while applauding the trucker campaign on Saturday evening.
“Joe Biden’s Unfair and Dangerous Weaponization of Law Enforcement is a serious threat to Democracy. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Thrilled by Trump’s Support
In response, on Sunday, Ray shared his excitement on the same platform: “Trump just posted my video and picture on his Truth Social account, pretty f..ken cool.”
Video Leak
In the original video posted by Ray, which was also shared by Trump, Ray states, “I’ve been on the radio talking to drivers for about the last hour… and I’ve talked to at least ten drivers… And they’re going to start refusing loads to New York City starting on Monday.”
Stern Warning
Ray further commented, “I don’t know how far across the country this is, or how many truckers are gonna start denying loads going to New York City, but I’ll tell you what, you f..k around and find out, OK? We’re tired of you motherf..king leftists f..king with Trump.”
95% of Truckers with Trump?
Ray further asserted, without providing proof, that between 95 to 96 percent of truckers support Trump, and labeled the legal actions against Trump as “election interference.”
Heavy Fines and Bans
Judge Arthur Engoron recently imposed a substantial fine on Trump and prohibited him from holding any officer or director position in any New York corporation or legal entity for three years.
Trump and Sons Fined
Judge Arthur Engoron has mandated the former president and the Trump Organization to pay upwards of $354 million in damages. The judge also demanded that Trump’s sons, Don Jr. and Eric, each pay fines of $4 million.
Trump Vows to Appeal
In his initial public statement following the court’s decision, Trump confidently declared, “We’ll appeal and we’ll be successful.” Addressing the media at Mar-a-Lago on Friday night, Trump fiercely criticized the ruling, describing it as “a fine of 350 million for doing a perfect job.”
Condemning ‘Crooked’ Ruling
He continued his usual pattern of attacks, labeling the judge as “crooked” and referring to the attorney general as “corrupt.”
$450M Total
New York Attorney General Letitia James, who spearheaded the lawsuit, indicated that with added pre-judgment interest, the total judgment exceeds $450 million.
$83M Defamation Case Loss
In a separate New York court case weeks earlier, Trump faced another setback when a jury ruled he must pay $83 million in damages to E. Jean Carroll for defamation, relating to a sexual assault incident in the ’90s.
A Potential Crisis?
It’s uncertain whether the truckers’ campaign will expand to a scale that significantly disrupts the flow of goods into New York City. As of now, Ray’s claims are the primary source of information, with his video attracting over six million views by early Sunday afternoon.
Ray has committed to providing an update to his followers on Monday.
2022 Truckers’ Protest
This situation echoes 2022 when, after widespread protests by Canadian truckers against vaccine mandates, American truckers organized a “People’s Convoy” to Washington, D.C., protesting COVID-19 mandates.
However, their movement didn’t achieve a significant impact.
