Stephen King calls out GOP lawmaker Jim Jordan over gun control, “Guns, Jimmy”

Celebrated author and staunch activist for stricter gun rules, Stephen King, scolded Ohio Republican Jim Jordan following his stance on “The Protecting Our Kids Act.”

King recently criticized the Evangelicals of America

The author wrote on X, “And behold, the Evangelicals of America made a golden Trump, and they did bow down and worship him.” Despite the divided comments that followed, King is not the first person to raise the same question.

Peter Wehner, George W. Bush’s speechwriter, told the Atlantic, “Far too many Christians in America are not only betraying their humanity; they are betraying the Lord they claim to love and serve.”

Jordan, the Ohio Republican, shared on X, “19 shot. 3 dead. One holiday weekend. Democrat-run Chicago.” He added a link to the news, and it did not take long for the author to respond, “Guns, Jimmy. Guns.”

Jordan wrote, “Philadelphia recorded its 400th homicide of the year last week. Police say a 58-year-old man was the 400th murder victim. That same evening, a man was gunned down in a triple shooting. Who’s in charge there? Democrats.” King retweeted again and said the same thing, “Guns, Jimmy. It’s the guns.”

Jordan did not support “The Protecting Our Kids Act”

King’s comments are not unfounded. The “Protecting Our Kids Act” passed by a vote of 223 to 204 in 2022, and Jordan was among GOP members who voted against the package of gun law reforms. The act was voted weeks after the Uvalde shooting, which took the lives of 19 children and their two teachers.

While on Fox News, the Ohio Republican said, “The Second Amendment is as clear as it gets: ‘shall not infringe on your right to bear arms.’ It can’t get any plainer than that, but that’s what they’re going after.”

Jordan had more to say

Jordan continued, “I always tell folks it says arms, not muskets; it says shall not infringe—it doesn’t say shall not infringe unless it’s an assault weapon or whatever the Democrats want to go after that particular week.”

King has a history of opposing guns

In 2013, the author wrote “Guns,” a non-fictional essay, and on his official site, it states that all profits go to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The essay came after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, which triggered King to ask for a ban on assault weapons.

In the essay, the famed author wondered, “How many have to die before we will give up these dangerous toys?” He commented on one woman’s statement that guns are like tools, asking, “Lady, let’s see you try to kill twenty schoolkids with a f… spoon.”

The author argued, “Semi-automatics have only two purposes. One is so owners can take them to the shooting range once in awhile, yell yeehaw, and get all horny at the rapid fire and the burning vapor spurting from the end of the barrel. Their other use – their only other use – is to kill people.”

The Maine shooting took place near King’s childhood home

King went to high school in Lisbon Falls, where the Lewiston shooter was found dead after killing 18. The author said, “Guns are everywhere. This guy was crazy, and he was able to get guns, and nobody was able to take them away.” He added how it was close to his childhood home, “It always means more when you know the place. It shouldn’t, necessarily. We’re all the same people.”

King called out Boebert and Greene

In May, after a series of shootings, King told Marjorie Taylor Greene, “Do something about gun violence.” He also shared a similar message under Boebert’s X video: “I think you should do something about mass shootings.”

In November, the author wrote in the New York Times, “I reject his view that ‘there is no solution to the gun problem.’ We may be ‘addicted to firearms,’ but America has overcome addiction before with the same grit and persistence that helped end slavery and bend our collective views away from racism.”
