Sports fans want Ted Cruz banned from sporting events

Texas Senator Ted Cruz faces a “ban” from sporting events brought on by fans who believe that his presence brings a “curse.”

Cruz’s latest “curse” brought the Texas Longhorns loss against the Washington Huskies during the College Football Playoff semifinal. Many sports fans spotted Cruz even before the game, and some took to X to predict results.

The numbers speak for themselves

According to LMTOnline, “teams Cruz supported in person are a startling 0–8” since the beginning of 2023. But the “curse” dates back much longer, so Cruz had to defend himself online.

Cruz vs. Rolling Stone

In October 2023, Rolling Stone pointed out at Cruz’s bad luck for teams he supports, and the Texas Senator called the journalists “lying hacks.” He wrote on X, “For 7 years, Catherine [Cruz’s daughter] & I have attended nearly EVERY Astros home playoff game.”

It is not all bad

Cruz further said on X, “If they’re going to blame me for our recent home losses, pls also credit us for TWO World Series Championships & SEVEN consecutive ALCS’s—we were there cheering Stros on!”

Cruz’s other failures

Texas Tech lost in 2019, and Cruz was not just there. He also snapped a selfie. In 2018, he attended the NBA playoffs when the Houston Rockets lost to the Warriors. Fan Nation noted that Cruz attended every game the Astros lost in 2023, 5 overall. Houston Astros fans begged the Senator to skip the games.

Social media went wild

Following the latest “curse” on the field, one person shared a photo of Cruz on the field and wrote, “Ted Cruz is sports cancer.” Another shared a candid photo of the Senator with the caption, “Texas loss confirmed.”

More reactions

Andy Cerda, an X user, had an idea, “We need to call a special session to ban Ted Cruz from appearing at ANY Texas sporting event in the future.”

Some joked

“The curse of Ted Cruz is real, and his opponents should put out press statements tomorrow lampooning him for destroying Longhorns’ chances today by attending in person,” wrote Bhavik Lathia.

Others went further

“Do not allow Ted Cruz to claim he is a fan of your team. No matter what,” wrote Daniel Ramirez, while an account called OrganizerMemes remarked: “Ted Cruz, I hate you [so much].”

From “curse” to “jinx”

A RedditCFB account warned, “The all-time greatest jinx in sports, Ted Cruz, ladies and gentlemen.”

Filipkowski also wrote about the alleged curse

In October, Ron Filipkowski, an attorney and never-Trump conservative, commented, “Astros fans begged Ted Cruz not to curse the team by going to the game. He went anyway.”

A spokesperson for Cruz commented

A Cruz spokesperson said: “Cruz has a legendary record supporting the Stros in their biggest victories, including when he cheered the Stros on to victory on June 3, 1989, which was one of the longest baseball games in history. But go ahead, write a hit piece on Sen. Cruz spending time with his young daughter cheering on their hometown heroes.”

To be fair

The Astros won the World Series in 2022, but that did not stop some fans from booing Cruz during a victory parade. Cruz did not seem to mind, as he shared on X, “Fired up crowd today during the @Astros #WorldSeries parade! Such a great time celebrating an amazing team! #GoStros.”
