Former Republican lawmaker Adam Kinzinger said Christians who support Trump “don’t understand” their religion as a response to the former President’s controversial Christmas message.

Posting on X, the former Republican representative described Trump as “weak, meager, smelly, victim-ey, belly-achey, but he ain’t a Christian, and he’s not ‘God’s man.'” Kinzinger did not seek re-election in 2022, though it was no surprise since he distanced himself from Republicans following January 6, 2021.

Kinzinger continued, “I’m going to go out on a NOT limb here: this man is not a Christian.” He added, “If you are a Christian who supports him, you don’t understand your own religion.”

On his social network, Truth Social, Donald Trump wrote, “Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNG against ‘TRUMP’ and ‘MAGA.'”

Kinzinger was among the 10 House Republicans who voted for Trump’s impeachment following the January 6 riots. As for Trump, his Christmas message included “sick… THUGS we have inside our Country,” who should “go to hell.”

The former representative, who was on the January 6 committee, was joined by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, who wrote on X, “As a Christmas Day message, Trump told his perceived enemies to ‘ROT IN HELL,’ as part of a lengthy tirade. If you had a family member who went on rants like this, you would be having difficult conversations about what sort of assisted-living facility would be most appropriate.”

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance poked fun at the former President, saying, “Trump is currently having an ALL CAPS meltdown over on Truth Social on Christmas Day. Very stable genius.”

“Trump wishing that his enemies’ rot in hell’ on the day we celebrate Jesus’ birth is the exact OPPOSITE of the gospel message of Christmas. Christians are to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us,” said Texas State Representative GOP’s Matt Schaefer.

The post on the President’s official X account said, “There is a certain stillness at the center of the Christmas story: a silent night when all the world goes quiet. And all the clamor, everything that divides us, fades away in the stillness of a winter’s evening. I wish you that peace this Christmas Eve.”

Abbott also joined the celebrations

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was triggered after the Houston Chronicle’s editorial board compared Mary and Joseph to refugees. The Governor said the outlet was doing “Devil’s work.”

Writing on X, the Texas Governor shared, “Chron doesn’t know the story of Mary & Joseph. They weren’t ‘refugees’ (look up definition),” and added, “Read Luke 2:1-10. They were ordered by the govt to go to Bethlehem to register for the census. Nice distortion. Doing Devil’s work.”

Room for debate

While some X users agreed with the Governor, others wrote, “They had to flee to Egypt,” which means they were, indeed, refugees.

The party shared a message on X, “We aren’t afraid to say it: Merry Christmas y’all!” This comes after Trump accused Democrats of trying to cancel Christmas and replace it with “happy holidays.”

A Houston Democrat and Texas representative, Gene Wu, responded to this message, writing, “A reminder to the Muslim American and Asian American communities: Islamophobia is now out and proud in the @TexasGOP (still).” Wu continued, “When they show you who they really are, don’t doubt them.”
