She said, “It’s becoming increasingly clear that the sham impeachment of President Joe Biden was a sham from beginning to ignominious end, as it appears much of the information upon which it was based originated from the Kremlin.”
Inquiry Details
The Republican impeachment inquiry, led by Comer and Jordan, leaned heavily on FBI informant Alexander Smirnov’s testimony, alleging that executives from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million each in 2015 or 2016.
False Statements
Smirnov has now faced charges of concocting a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme and providing false statements to federal authorities.
Fabricated Story
The indictment alleges that Smirnov “fabricated” a story about a Ukrainian oligarch paying millions of dollars in bribes to the Bidens.
Informant’s Credibility
Despite revelations of Smirnov’s alleged deceit, Comer has attempted to reassess the informant’s reliability.
He said, “When asked by the committee about their confidence in the confidential human source, the FBI told the committee the confidential human source was credible and trusted, had worked with the FBI for over a decade, and had been paid six figures.”

Republicans had previously touted the discredited allegations as part of their investigation as a major step forward into inquiry.

House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan told Fox News last month that “the most corroborating evidence we have is that 1023 form from this highly credible confidential human source.”

House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith, who is leading the inquiry with Jordan and Comer, described the allegations as a “smoking gun.”
