Lauren Boebert’s rival outraises most of Congress while preparing for a brutal showdown

Lauren Boebert

One of the most significant election races will be in Colorado, where Lauren Boebert will likely meet Democrat Adam Frisch. According to the official reports, Frisch has raised more than $7.7 million, more than only two other members of Congress.

Frisch raised almost three times more than Boebert, according to Business Insider and Time. He told Time that he does not expect fundraising to end soon, adding, “I’m confident we’re going to report very strong fundraising numbers yet again.” But Frisch is not Boeber’s only worry since Boebert’s primary challenger, Jeff Hurd, is also gaining momentum.

In a heavily Republican district, Boebert still barely passed the Democrat, and it took her only 546 votes for the victory in the 2022 midterms. While Frisch raised more than all but two other Congress members, Boebert got $2.4 million and only $854,000 between July and September.

Boebert’s setback

In September, the Colorado firebrand was caught making out with her date during a Beetlejuice musical, vaping and acting in a not-very-ladylike manner. Time’s Mini Racker noted that Boebert “has been trying to move past both her Beetlejuice scandal and her image as a controversial ultra-MAGA lawmaker.” However, she also has another opponent, Republican Jeff Hurd, who gathered  $412,000 in four months.

Hurd’s spokesperson called out Boebert’s “poor personal conduct” and “profound underperformance.” Hurd told CPR News, “I think the 3rd congressional district deserves a sincere and hardworking member of Congress who will advance Colorado values with character and with integrity.” While he did not slam Boebert, some shade was thrown out.

Former governor Bill Owens endorsed the Republican. Delta County Commissioner Don Suppes stated, “I think we reached the point that we need a statesman to run for this seat, and we need somebody that’s not going to have any external baggage.” Mesa County commissioner Cody Davis joined Suppes despite his previous attempts to defend Boebert.

Davis was directly talking about Boebert’s Beetlejuice scandal, claiming, “It wasn’t a simple mistake.” He continued, “This was kind of a violent departure from normal, from statesmanship, from character… you name it.” Boebert’s indiscretion came several months after she confirmed separation from her husband of 18 years, with whom she shared four children and one grandchild.

On X, the Colorado lawmaker wrote in December 2023, “Today, my Pueblo Jobs Act was officially signed into law!” Boebert further said about her first bill that passed, “My bill will create over 1,000 jobs and repurpose billions of dollars of infrastructure from the Pueblo Chemical Depot.”

It was a bipartisan effort

Boebert continued, “It was an honor to collaborate on this local bipartisan effort with all the great individuals at PuebloPlex, the House Armed Services Committee, and both Senators to get this important legislation done!” But for Boebert, a MAGA Republican, things only got more complicated after the recent Colorado ruling.

Business Insider analyst Jake Swearingen commented that Boebert’s campaign will make her opponents millions “to capitalize on any mistakes she makes along the way.” In the meantime, Boebert might have to face the reality that Trump might not be on the ballot in her state.

During Biden’s speech, Frisch was absent, and Boebert took notice. She wrote on X, ” (Frisch) is so scared of Biden’s sinking poll’s that he declined to join him on the campaign trail in Pueblo today.”

Boebert continued, “If Aspen Adam won’t show up for his President and Pueblo, how can Third District voters trust he’ll show up for them?” She continued by taking jabs at the president and her likely campaign rival, though during the same speech, President Biden crossed himself after mentioning her name.

Jayson Boebert was among those who defended the Colorado lawmaker after the Beetlejuice scandal, writing, “I feel the people should know the truth of our broken marriage and burden she has carried for too long.” In an open letter, he said he “broke her down,” adding, “Much of this is on me because the problem starts at the root. I am the root.”
