The actor expressed concerns after the news broke that a large swastika vandalized Philadelphia’s Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza.
That’s “Terrible”
The actor initially shared on X, “That’s f… terrible,” and added, “[Too] bad we have Nazis running for office in the US. The ghouls feel like they can come out.” Cusack, known for “Say Anything,” “Being John Malkovich,” and “High Fidelity,” linked an article from the Jerusalem Post.
Cusack Did Not Name Anyone
Cusack usually stays away from the spotlight, but he shared some of his strong political views in the past. In November 2020, he called out Trump voters and said, “The mentally ill virus spreading Child abducting Nazi ra.ist?” He added, “We are ill.”
Not a Fan of Democrats, Either
The renewed actor blamed the Democratic party in an X post from September 2023, “They have played a major part in creating the precise conditions for fascism to flourish.” He added, “Dems have sold out the working class for decades – and this kind of bought and paid- for the betrayal of principals, fairness – historical precedent -any sense of moral or intellectual honesty.”
Cusack Mocked Trump’s Mugshot
The actor has been a Bernie Sanders supporter, but he voted for Biden, explaining, “You’re voting for an extension of the neoliberal order. But the alternative is fascism. You have to vote against Trump.” When it comes to Trump, Cusack reacted on his Fulton County mugshot, “Petulant and pouting.” He added, “He knows he’s garbage and knows he can’t outsmart anyone. Just fear and rage.”
The Actor Cut Off People From His Life
The “Grosse Pointe Blank” star wrote, “I’m sure you’ve all been through it with some family co-workers – or friends. Those who cannot see or choose not to see what [Trump] is – we are done talking – permanently.”
Vandalizing Holocaust Memorial
The disturbing incident was caught on nearby cameras, but the perpetrator wore a mask. The Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza in Philadelphia wrote on its Facebook page, “Earlier this weekend, a vandal drew a large swastika on the wall at the Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway — a disgusting act of antisemitism that comes amid a staggering spike in anti-Jewish hatred across Philadelphia and the country more broadly.”
Call for Help
The memorial asked for help, “If anyone has additional information about this hate crime or has any knowledge of the perpetrator, please contact the Philadelphia Police Department by calling or texting 215.686.TIPS (8477).”
Cusack’s Rare Interview Reveals Why He Got into Politics
The actor spoke to the Guardian, where he explained, “I would love to think about other things. Poetry. Love. Anything else. But that’s just not the times we’re in.”
Sleepwalking into a Dark Future
Cusack continued, “Sure, I might go too far sometimes. But I really just want to get across the message: that we’re sleepwalking into an incredibly dark possible future.”
The Actor Knows It Could Hurt His Career
Cusack added, “Maybe being outspoken hurts your career… I’m just aware it helps me sleep better at night, knowing that I wasn’t passive during this time.”
The Police vs. Cusack During the BLM Protest
John Cusack said he was attacked by Chicago police while filming the protests that began following the killing of George Floyd. He shared on X, “Cops didn’t like me filming the burning car, so they came at me with batons. Hitting my bike. Ahhm, here’s the audio.”
“I was just a witness”
The actor stated “I was just a witness to what was happening in Chicago,” and added that he was not the story and asked followers to keep things in perspective.
