Jen Psaki warns that MAGA Republicans are trying to rewrite history

On the last day of 2023, Jen Psaki talked on her show about how some Republicans are trying to “rewrite the history” of January 6. She warned that the “specter of political violence” continues to loom over the country.

Former White House Press Secretary and host of “Inside with Jen Psaki” said during the last episode of her show in 2023, “The thing is, we did see for ourselves. Everyone did. As we approach another anniversary of that day, none of this, none of it, should be in question.”

Arguing it was an “inside job”

The ex-White House Press Secretary, who served under the Obama and Biden administrations, questioned comments by Vivek Ramaswamy and House Speaker Mike Johnson, who mentioned that January 6 was an “inside job.”

In December 2023, Ramaswamy wondered, “Why am I the only person on this stage, at least, who can say that January 6 now does look like it was an inside job?” Ramaswamy continued discussing the alleged government’s “involvement in 9/11” and the 2020 election “being stolen by the Big Tech.”

Republican Senator suggested a similar theory

Utah Senator Mike Lee wrote in November on X that during the Capitol riots, it was “undercover federal agents disguised as MAGA.” He responded to Liz Cheney’s post: “It’s the other stuff—what you deliberately hid from us—that we find so upsetting. Nice try. P.S. How many of these guys are feds? (As if you’d ever tell us).”

Previously, a Utah Senator shared on X, “We need to investigate the J6 committee.” In another post, he was fact-checked by the X users. Lee shared a clip that said a person showed a badge during the riots. However, readers added context, “The person in the photo is Kevin Lyons. He has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for his illegal activities inside the Capitol on J6.”

Speaker Johnson said, “I don’t think partisan elected officials in Washington should present a narrative and expect that it should be seen as the ultimate truth.” Johnson also shared in December that Republicans are editing the January 6 tapes “because we don’t want them to be retaliated against and to be charged by the DOJ.”

Ghost buses?

Representative Clay Higgins from Louisiana also shared a theory while questioning FBI Director Christopher Wray. Higgins asked, “Do you know what a ‘ghost vehicle’ is, director? You’re director of the FBI, you certainly should. You know what a ‘ghost bus’ is?”

“These buses are nefarious in nature and were filled with FBI informants dressed as Trump supporters, deployed onto our capital on January 6,” Higgins said, adding, “Your day is coming, Mr. Wray.”

Psaki’s explanation

The host and political strategist stated, “A group of people motivated by the lies of the then-sitting president of the United States attacked the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep him in power,” adding, “But for the coalition that supports Donald Trump. What happened on January 6 is apparently, unfortunately, still up for debate.”

The former government official concluded, “As we enter the New Year, that specter of political violence continues to hang over the country.”

Psaki opened up about her struggles while working as President Joe Biden’s top spokesperson for 16 months, claiming in 2022, “I have had nasty letters, texts to me with my personal address, the names of my children.” She recalled threats and added, “There is a circulation of my address among the Arlington Republican Party right now.”

The Arlington GOP fired back

Talking to Politico, the Arlington GOP disputed the claims, asserting it “has not publicly disseminated any Biden Administration official’s home address, unlike the hordes of progressive activists online who have disseminated the addresses of Justices of the Supreme Court.”
