J.D. Vance is not “fit to serve,” warns Liz Cheney, following his Supreme Court remarks

Former Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney called out JD Vance, a GOP Senator from Ohio, following his comments that the Supreme Court could potentially make an “illegitimate ruling.”

Talking to ABC News “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos, Vance, Trump’s critic turned ally, declared that if he were V.P. in 2020, “I would have told the states, like Pennsylvania, Georgia, and so many others, that we needed to have multiple slates of electors, and I think the U.S. Congress should have fought over it from there.” He added, “That is the legitimate way to deal with an election.”

What about Pence?

The then-VP Mike Pence repeatedly said that he certified the votes in 2020, against Trump’s wishes, because the Constitution says so. But Vance’s statement about the Supreme Court also defied the U.S. Constitution.

Vance shared, “The Constitution says that the Supreme Court can make rulings … but if the Supreme Court said the president of the United States can’t fire a general, that would be an illegitimate ruling.”

The ABC News host told the Senator, “You’ve made it very clear—you believe the president can defy the Supreme Court. ” Then, the host added, “Senator, thanks for your time this morning.” Vance’s microphone was cut off.

The Never Trump conservative, Liz Cheney, wrote on X, “Yesterday, @JDVance1 claimed that  Trump could defy rulings of the Supreme Court as President.  Vance also admitted he would have done what VP Pence refused to do on January 6—help Trump illegally seize power. That’s tyranny. Neither Trump nor Vance is fit to serve.”

Cheney also shared her thoughts on the border deal

The daughter of the former V.P. of the United States, Dick Cheney, and a former lawmaker wrote about the border deal, “On Trump’s orders, Republicans in Congress are rejecting the border security deal.” She continued, “They’re also abandoning America’s allies in Ukraine. Trump and the GOP are losing the war on purpose in an inexcusable betrayal that will strengthen America’s enemies for years to come.”

In 2022, Liz Cheney, a Republican, backed Democrat Tim Ryan over Vance in the race for the Ohio Senate. After some criticism, Vance was already on Trump’s side and called him the “best president of my lifetime.” Cheney, on the other hand, was on the January 6 Committee, where she said, “President Trump knew from unassailable sources that his election fraud claims were false.”

In January 2022, Vance told Spectrum News about the 2020 elections, “I don’t care whether you say it’s rigged, whether you say it’s stolen, like, I’ll say what I’m going to say about it.”

During his interview with Stephanopoulos, Vance also blasted a recent defamation verdict against Trump. He stated, “This case, like so many legal cases against Donald Trump, they’re trumped up — they’re in extremely left-wing jurisdictions, or it’s actually the Biden administration prosecuting his chief political rival.”

The Ohio Senator continued, “George if you look at all of these cases, the through line, two-fold. No. 1, they’re funded by Donald Trump’s political opponents, and the goal here is not to help us actually have a real conversation about how to advance the country forward.”

The big conclusion

Vance added, “Their goal is to defeat Trump at the courts because these people know they can’t defeat him at the ballot box.” When the host challenged Vance’s opinion, he responded, “When the cases are funded by left-wing donors and when the case has absolute left-wing bias all over it, George, absolutely I think that we should call into question that particular conclusion.”

Trump said something similar

Writing on Truth Social post-Carroll’s verdict, Trump ranted he fully disagreed with the ruling and plans to appeal the”whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA.”
