House Speaker Johnson Lashes Out at President Biden: “Outrageous”

Following Biden’s speech at a fundraiser, where he described his career and compared previous Republicans to modern “MAGA” ones, House Speaker Mike Johnson blasted the President on social media.

The President reportedly said during a San Francisco fundraising event that current GOP lawmakers are “worse” than any generation before. White House pool report noted that Biden declared, “I’ve been a senator since ’72. I’ve served with real racists. I’ve served with Strom Thurmond. I’ve served with all these guys that have set terrible records on race.”

Biden continued, “But guess what? These guys are worse.” He continued by stating they “do not believe in basic democratic principles.” The President pointed out that Thurmond had more Black people in his office “than any other member in Congress.”

Still, Biden added, “I’m not making him more than he was. But my point is, at least you could work with some of these guys.” He recounted, “Time and again, Republicans show they are the party of chaos and division.” The speech triggered Johnson, who blasted the President on X.

Johnson wrote on X, “Outrageous. The least popular President to seek re-election is now so desperate and so underwater in the polls he’s playing the race card from the bottom of the deck.”

The President has been unhappy with House Republicans for a while, but in recent weeks, things escalated after the GOP killed the bipartisan deal. Speaker Johnson’s spokesperson said the president “spent the past month denying a 1-on-1 meeting,” though they both agreed to meet.

The House Speaker’s troubles have only just begun since there is a looming government shutdown, which means he will either work with Democrats, like Kevin McCarthy, or not. Due to a razor-thin majority and pressure from hardline GOP lawmakers, it appears that Johson will have to make one of the most challenging decisions.

Biden shared an anecdote about his meetings with other heads of state, adding they wanted him to win the 2024 election. He explained, “As I walk out of meetings, a head of state will find an excuse to come up close…and say ‘you’ve got to win.’ Not because I’m so special. ‘You’ve got to win because my democracy is at stake if the other guy wins.’ Nine heads of state have done that with me.”

Johnson was asked for an update in a letter from Freedom Caucus, that said in part, “With the expiration of government funding rapidly approaching, negotiations continue behind closed doors, and as a result, we anticipate text for likely omnibus legislation that we fear will be released at the latest moment before being rushed to the floor for a vote.”

The letter suggested that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ salary should be $0, adding that they should defund Planned Parenthood, take actions on student loans and funding for what it presented as a “new, massive Pentagon-sized headquarters for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

The House Speaker was blasted after the GOP retreat in Miami, where he referenced Bible verses and attempted to argue God was in the Republican party, Politico reported. That did not sit well with many Republicans.

Minister blasted Johnson

Talking to Salon, Nathaniel Manderson, a Christian minister, said that  Johnson is the perfect manifestation of “cruel conservatism.” He continued, “Currently, the evangelical agenda advanced by people like Mike Johnson involves ignoring the needs of the poor, the sick, and immigrants from foreign lands. They support Donald Trump — which should be enough evidence that the devil is real.”

The minister shared, “The devil has many followers. He sells many books. He runs for president. He misleads God’s people.” He concluded, “I believe in God and the devil — and I know whose side today’s pious Republicans are on.”
