House GOP’s Statement Aimed At Biden Seems To Be More Anti-Trump

House Republicans shared a post regarding classified documents aimed at President Biden. Still, it could also be read as an anti-Trump statement because, unlike Biden, he was charged with mishandling classified documents, and naturally, social media users had a field day.

An ambiguous post

The official House Republicans X account wrote, “A man who can’t even be held responsible for mishandling classified information properly has absolutely no business occupying the Oval Office.”

Echoing Trump’s statement from 2016

Trump told Americans Monday "it is time for our country to come together" after he won the Iowa caucuses, cementing his status as the likely Republican challenger to take on President Joe Biden in November's election. In 2015 and 2016, Trump repeatedly attacked then-candidate Hillary Clinton, with one post on X saying, “150 Clinton E-mails still contain classified information. More sensitive when she was Sec. of State. This is a very big deal.” Two months before the election, he wrote, “Lyin’ Hillary Clinton told the FBI that she did not know the ‘C’ markings on documents stood for CLASSIFIED. How can this be happening?”

The House GOP was more than likely talking about Robert Hur’s report, which says the special counsel declined to file charges against Biden for the way he stored classified documents, adding, “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

But, there was more

The report continued, “Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

A reminder that Trump was criminally charged

Trump is under four indictments, including the one from Florida in which he faces dozens of felony counts accusing him of mishandling highly classified records at his Mar-a-Lago estate and obstructing FBI efforts to get them back. Walt Nauta, his valet and bodyguard, and Carlos de Oliveira, property manager, were also charged in the classified documents case.

House GOP missed its mark

Former U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling replied to the now viral X post, “Gotta be a bad attempt at a Jedi mind trick, right?” A user with the handle @irishrygirl wrote, “That’s exactly what Jack Smith thinks as well.”

Many users shared photos from Mar-a-Lago showing allegedly classified documents stored in the bathrooms. According to the indictment, Trump’s Florida resort hosted thousands while the classified documents were kept there.

A not-so-subtle reminder

One X user, Rhonda Harbison, posted, “Prosecutors have a recording of Trump discussing sensitive Iran document,” with a link to the accompanying article.

CNN exclusively obtained the audio recording of the 2021 meeting in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he allegedly discussed “highly confidential” documents that were seemingly plans to attack Iran.

More posters called out House GOP

One person, @ChidiNwatu, wrote, “This has to be the most impressive self-own ever.” They wondered, “So when are you endorsing @NikkiHaley?” @ArtCandee shared, “We agree that Trump should not hold office.”

“Exactly!” wrote @riotwomennn, adding, “That is why Trump never has and never will win the majority of votes in the U.S. He is a dangerous and pathetic loser.” @Kimbo_Sabbi shared a similar statement, “You’re absolutely 100% correct. @realDonaldTrump should never be allowed near the Oval Office again.”

Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (Ohio GOP representative), Oversight Chairman James Comer (Kentucky representative), and Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (Montana lawmaker), who are leading an impeachment inquiry into Biden, wrote to the DOJ, in part, “There is concern that President Biden may have retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business dealings.”

The former president appeared in Fort Pierce for a closed hearing in his classified documents case. The trial is set for May 20, but it could be pushed back due to delays in other cases against Trump.
