Texas GOP Congressman slammed Fox News host as a “f..king clown” who’s “desperate for reporting his stock earnings and hinting at possible unethical stock transactions, a backlash that even spilled over into personal remarks about the anchor’s wife and twins.
Political Drama Unfolds
A fiery exchange erupted when Fox News host Jesse Watters accused Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) of insider trading this Wednesday. Watters, once a friendly face to Crenshaw and a guest on his podcast to promote his book in 2021, singled out several politicians, claiming they were choosing stocks based on a Tuesday report by market analysts Unusual Whales.
Justified Gains?
The report indicated that Crenshaw’s market performance exceeded by 13 points, a figure relatively modest compared to others on the list. In response, Crenshaw turned to Instagram to mount his defense.
Ethics Questioned
Commenting on the ongoing issue of Congressional stock trades, Watters remarked, “A lot of them investing in companies they had inside information on. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what corruption looks like. And that is why Congress still hasn’t passed a ban on insider stock trade.”
A Trading Dilemma
The issue of Congressional stock trades has recently been under the microscope, as several lawmakers from both parties face scrutiny over their well-timed trades. A notable example includes Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA), who discreetly sold $50,000 in Boeing stock before a committee report on the 737 MAX crashes, which he was a part of.
“Hurt Feelings” at Fox News
Crenshaw took to Instagram to hit back at Watters, where he told his 2.5 million followers that Fox News had called off a “pre-scheduled” Wednesday evening interview, possibly as backlash for his remarks about Watters. “Guess I hurt their feelings by calling out their bulls–t,” he quipped in his story, ending with a casual “Oh well.”
Contrasting Claims
Meanwhile, a source from Fox News said that Crenshaw wasn’t scheduled for any Fox News shows on Wednesday evening, adding that his prior booking was for a Fox Business late-afternoon show, and the cancellation had nothing to do with his Instagram remarks.
Crenshaw didn’t hold back
Crenshaw didn’t hold back in his Instagram attack against Watters, posting, “Hey you f..king hack, if you’re gonna accuse of me of literal corruption, get your facts straight and man up and accuse me to my face. You’re a f..king clown, desperate for clickbait.”
There is more
In a separate post, he added, “I’m sitting here trying to feed my 3 month old and this dirt bag millionaire at Fox is accusing me of being a criminal, with zero evidence. Stop watching these mediocre entertainers. Stop letting wealthy elitists like Jessye (sic) Watters claim to be ‘fighting for you.’ They live in Manhattan and can’t stand normal people in red states. They think you’re stupid and feed you bulls..t to rile you up.”
Personal Dig at Watters
Crenshaw further escalated his remarks about Watters, touching on personal matters by saying, “Yeah, he’s such a ‘conservative’ he cheated on his wife and then left her with twins while he went off with another Fox producer,” and “Jesse Watters seems like the type of dude who pees sitting down.”
Investment Numbers Revealed
Crenshaw claimed in his Instagram post, “I literally have $10,000 invested in stocks, and I haven’t made trades in over a year. I never have more than ~ $20k invested while in Congress.”
“Wake Up America”
He accused Fox of fabricating controversy for clicks, calling Watters a “tool” for promoting conspiracies and criticizing veterans like himself, despite Crenshaw’s much lower net worth. “Wake up America” he urged. “The political entertainment industry almost always lies to you.”
