Democratic Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman criticized fellow Democrats who are intensifying their critiques of President Biden before the November election, suggesting they might as well wear a “MAGA hat.”

Fetterman highlighted an increase in Democrats who have recently become more critical of Biden, noting that it’s only benefiting former President Trump.

During a “Morning Joe” interview on MSNBC, Fetterman said, “I don’t understand why. I don’t know what’s in it for you to do that whether you’re just chasing clout or you want to make it in the news or anything like that.”
“Get Your MAGA Hat”
The senator continued, “But if you’re not willing to just support the president now and say these kinds of things, you might as well just get your MAGA hat, because you now are helping Trump with this.”
“Shut the f*** Up”
Fetterman’s blunt admonition to party critics isn’t new; he previously told James Carville, a veteran political strategist, to “shut the f*** up” following Carville’s speculation that Trump could outperform Biden in the upcoming general.
Age Concerns
James Carville also highlighted voter concerns regarding Biden’s age amidst declining poll numbers, suggesting a younger candidate might fare better against Trump.
Under 60 Better Chances
“If we have somebody under 60 and ran against Trump, we’d get 55 percent,” Carville stated in September.
A Fresh Perspective
He has also criticized the party’s stance on border security and immigration, asserting that the United States requires a comprehensive approach with a fresh perspective.
Need for Secure Border
In a CNN interview, Fetterman remarked, “I honestly don’t understand why it’s controversial to say we need a secure border.”

He said that the massive influx of illegal immigrants is hindering legal migrants from achieving their “American dream.”

Fetterman noted, “There is a crisis. We have a crisis at our border, and it can’t be controversial that we should have a secure border.”

He said, “I think about immigration is, we want to provide the American Dream for any migrant. But it seems very difficult when you have 300,000 people showing up, encountered at our border to do that.”

Fetterman also faced criticism from progressive quarters, particularly due to his strong support for Israel.

In the CNN show, he said Israel “is most reflective of the kinds of open, progressive, liberal policies, and it’s a strange paradox where the most progressive members of our party seem to not recognize that Israel is a nation that supports those values.”

Despite internal party criticisms, Fetterman expressed strong confidence in Biden’s chances in Pennsylvania, a crucial state he won in the 2020 elections.

He believes a victory in Pennsylvania will be pivotal for Biden’s re-election. “The president is going to win here in Pennsylvania, and I’ve always believed that whoever wins Pennsylvania is going to be the next president as well,” Fetterman said.

The Pennsylvania senator concluded, “This is going to be difficult, and we all have to lean in on that,”

Fetterman’s popularity among younger voters in Pennsylvania has experienced a big drop compared to the strong support he garnered from this demographic during the November 2022 election.

According to a recent Quinnipiac University survey released last month, only 28% of individuals aged 18-34 hold a favorable view of Fetterman, while 45% have an unfavorable opinion of the senator.
