E. Jean Carroll May File a Third Lawsuit Against Trump

Jean Carroll’s lawyer indicated that she might sue Donald Trump a third time, as he keeps discussing her in public even after the verdict.

Shawn Crowley, Carroll’s attorney, spoke on MSNBC’s Inside With Jen Psaki, reacting to the GOP presidential hopeful’s comments at a Michigan rally.

At a rally, Trump questioned,  “Who the hell is she? Who is the woman?” referring to Carroll, and criticized the US court system as a “mess.”

‘Absolutely a lie’

Responding to whether Trump’s remarks could lead to another lawsuit, Crowley stated,  “What he said was absolutely a lie. Two unanimous federal juries have found that not only did Trump know who E. Jean was, he sexually assaulted her and lied about it repeatedly. Everything he said about her over the last five years has been a lie and has been defamatory.”

She added, “So we’re watching, we’re listening. We had really hoped that, as the jury found, that $83 million dollars would maybe be enough to convince him to keep E. Jean Carroll’s name out of his mouth, apparently he showed us this weekend that he really cannot control himself and that maybe it wasn’t but we will see what happens as this continues to play out.”

Social Media Backlash

Trump’s comments in Michigan sparked significant backlash on social media, with many predicting a possible new lawsuit against him and some even encouraging Carroll to take legal action for the third time.

Post-Trial Actions

On MSNBC, Rachel Maddow questioned her about Trump’s actions post-trial, including sharing articles that discredit her and deny her allegations.

Did Trump Cross the Line?

When Maddow asked if Carroll would pursue another lawsuit if advised by her lawyers, Carroll firmly responded, “Absolutely.”

However, attorney Bradley Moss noted that Trump’s statements were borderline, but did not quite “cross the line.”

$83.3 Million Verdict

In January, Trump was ordered by a New York City jury to pay $83.3 million in damages to the former Elle columnist for his 2019 statements, where he denied her accusations of sexual assault in a Manhattan store dressing room in the 1990s.

As the verdict was announced, Carroll’s expression was one of a smile. Trump, on the other hand, had left the building in his motorcade by that time.

The Second Time in 9 Months

This verdict marked the second time in nine months that a jury delivered a decision connected to Carroll’s allegation of a supposedly flirtatious, accidental meeting with Trump in 1996 at a Bergdorf Goodman store.

This sum includes $7.3 million for compensatory damages, $11 million for reputation repair, and $65 million in punitive damages.

Trump has consistently denied any misconduct and plans to appeal the decision.

$5 Million Penalty

In a separate civil defamation trial earlier, Trump was instructed to pay Carroll $5 million in damages, a verdict stemming from his 2022 denial of her allegations.

He is currently appealing this decision and has deposited $5.55 million with the Manhattan Court as a part of the appeal process.

‘Unfair’

Trump claimed he had never wronged Carroll, whom he said he didn’t know, and labeled the lawsuits against him as “unfair.”

Call for Carroll v. Trump 3

Harry Sisson expressed outrage on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Donald Trump just attacked E. Jean Carroll AGAIN. “Even after a jury found that he sexually abused and defamed her, he continues to repeat debunked claims. A new suit needs to be filed against him. I’m ready for Carroll v. Trump 3!!!”

The Need for Legal Action

The Palmer Report also weighed in, commenting on the situation with a touch of sarcasm:  “Donald Trump just idiotically attacked E. Jean Carroll again. Wonder how many more millions he’ll have to pay her this time.”
