Comer’s Hunt For Biden’s Impeachment Could Be Over Because “The Math Keeps Getting Worse”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer all but admitted defeat in the Biden impeachment inquiry during his Spectrum News interview. But, Comer is facing other issues after the FBI arrested the GOP star witness on charges of lying to the FBI and manufacturing false records linked to Biden’s business activities in Ukraine.

A monthslong investigation into the “Biden crime family,” as many House Republicans referred to the investigation into the President, is not looking good. Comer admitted that “math keeps getting worse” since the GOP has one of the smallest majorities in modern history.

In the interview, Comer said, “I think the conference will get to see what happens with this Mayorkas impeachment in the Senate and how serious the Senate treats that as to whether or not we impeach Joe Biden over here or are we just focused on holding him accountable?”

Comer added, “The accountability, I hope, will come this year, but it may come next year with a new president, a new attorney general.” This indicates that the Kentucky Republican believes Trump will win the 2024 election.

The House Oversight Committee Chairman continued by sharing that his goal was to “get the truth out there and hold people accountable for wrongdoing.” He concluded, “That may encompass impeachment. If it doesn’t, that’s fine with me.”

Following Robert Hur’s report, which did not charge President Biden, Comer,  House Judiciary Committee, led by Representative Jim Jordan and Jason Smith, GOP Representative who leads the Ways and Means Committee, wrote to AG Merrick Garland alleging that President Biden  “may have retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business dealings.”

Sources claim that Special Counsel Robert Hur will testify on March 12 before the House Judiciary Committee. This report came out right after the leading House Republicans wrote to Garland.

Ex-FBI informant Alexander Smirnov was charged with lying to the FBI and manufacturing false records relating to Biden’s activities in Ukraine. This led to Democrats asking for Comer to be investigated, especially after allegations that Smirnov had links with “high-level” Russian intelligence.

The indictment

Special counsel David Weiss confirmed charges against Smirnov, with the indictment saying, “Despite repeated admonishments that he must provide truthful information to the FBI and that he must not fabricate evidence, the Defendant provided false derogatory information to the FBI about Public Official 1, an elected official in the Obama-Biden Administration who left office in January 2017, and Businessperson 1, the son of Public Official 1, in 2020, after Public Official 1 became a candidate for President of the United States of America.”

Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg wrote on X, “Calls for Comer to resign should be cascading across the country tomorrow. He has betrayed the country.” Political commentator and podcast host Keith Olbermann shared, “Congressman James Comer needs to resign.”

Goldman slammed House GOP

Dan Goldman, a Democratic representative, said on CNN, “Wittingly or unwittingly, House Republicans have been acting as an agent or asset of Russian intelligence for Vladimir Putin.”

Moskowitz mocked Comer

“The witness of the FD-1023 form was just indicted for making it all up,” wrote Jared Moskowitz, a Florida Democrat, and added a gif from the movie Elf, where the main character says, “You’re sitting on a throne of lies.”

The two had falling outs

The Florida Democrat was called a “Smurf” by Comer during one of the debates while in the House of Representatives. Moskowitz used this chance to remind people of that by writing, “Hey James, Have a round on me tonight. You deserve it. Send me the bill. Your Dear Friend, Smurf.”

While on CNN, Moskowitz wondered, “When did James Comer know this was false? And how long did he conceal that from the American people?  Those are questions we need to get to the bottom of. When did he find out that this was a lie.. and they were still using this information.”

McGarvey also slammed impeachment efforts

Morgan McGarvey, a Kentucky Democrat, said Republicans need to go back to work, adding, “We need to actually get rid of these political investigations where there’s been no evidence of any crimes or misdemeanors to this point and focus on the work of Congress.”
