Independent journalist based in Colorado, where Lauren Boebert still represents the 3rd congressional district, explained why people are dissatisfied with the GOP lawmaker after speaking to some voters from the Grand Junction area.
Boebert’s big announcement
After a year filled with scandals worthy of a celebrity, Boebert, on December 27, announced she was switching districts. She will be leaving 3rd for the ultra-red 4th congressional district. Most assumed that the reasons were clear: Democratic challenger Adam Frisch outraised her, and her primary challenger, Jeff Hurd, is an attorney with a stable family life.
Boebert’s decision
Despite speculations, Boebert said it was “the right move for her personally and the right decision for those who support our conservative movement.” She continued, “I’m not going to risk the representation that conservatives have in CD3. It’s not worth the chance.”
The Colorado-based journalist went further
Ryan Biller wrote in his column for Politico that during a short period, Boebert became known as an “ideological performance artist who drew more notice for courting controversy and generating outrage than for her legislating or constituent service.”
GOP voter turned blue
The journalist spoke to a lifelong Republican who voted blue in 2022. Maisy Reid voted for Boebert in 2020, but “as Boebert’s media hits began to pile up, and her provocative antics consistently made headlines, the novelty soon got old.” Reid told Biller that the breaking point came while watching Boebert on Fox, “It seemed she was out of touch.”
Boebert’s August message to voters
In August, Boebert urged voters to donate after it was leaked that when it comes to fundraising, the Democrat, Frisch, is doing far better; even more alarming for the Republican must have been knowing that most of the donations Frisch got were small, meaning he gained the support of the voters. Boebert’s fundraising email said, “I need you to understand how dire this situation is. [Adam Frisch’s] latest internal polls have him beating us by two points.”
Another voter spoke to Biller
Russ Andrews, who voted for Boebert in 2022, told Biller that because she won by less than 600 votes, it should have been a “wake-up call that she was losing her grip on the district, that she wasn’t producing results, that the district had become so fed up it nearly chose a Democrat from Aspen over her.” Andrews announced his candidacy for GOP primaries in April 2023.
The Beetlejuice debacle
During the musical Beetlejuice, Boebert and her date were escorted over vaping and acting out, to put it mildly. She initially posted on X, “I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud!” However, the videos showed a recently divorced gun-loving 36-year-old grandma in a rather compromising position, so she apologized.
Mesa County voter is relieved
“She pulled the Band-Aid off. If she had a chance to get reelected, she wouldn’t have left,” told Biller Rhett Garcia, GOP’s Mesa County voter. Garcia added, “I’m just glad she’s gone. It’s time for an adult to represent the district.”
Grand Junction’s mayor spoke about Boebert
Grand Junction’s mayor, Anna Stout, is also running for the congressional seat. Stout stated, “We’ve not had a representative who truly represents us for a very long time. I’m taking on Lauren Boebert. She refused to seek congressionally directed spending for the 3rd Congressional District her entire first term. She’s not fighting for our water rights. She’s fighting for air time.”
“Fed up” with Boebert
Speaking to Politico, Stout said, “There is an acute sense of being fed up here. We don’t want to be a national laughingstock.”
Boebert’s new campign
While introducing herself to Baca County Republicans, Boebert told potential voters, “Many of you know who I am… I don’t have to ask like the ushers at the Buell Theater.” Despite saying she “fell short of my values,” the GOP lawmaker has no problem joking about the Beetlejuice incident.
Laura Loomer called out Boebert
Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, and journalist, wrote on X, “Lauren Hoebert is too trashy for Congress…. And that’s saying a lot.” Loomer also discussed recent events from Boebert’s private life, which are currently being investigated.
