Bob Costas Blasts Biden’s ‘Hubris’ Campaign, Insisting that the President ‘Has to Be Shown the Door’

Emmy-winning sportscaster Bob Costas commented that if Biden’s ‘hubris’ leads him to overlook the broader interests of his party and nation, it’s time for him to be ‘shown the door.’

Discussing President Biden’s campaign on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher,’ Costas commented on Friday, “If Biden’s hubris is such that he doesn’t understand the best interest of his party, and more importantly, his country, then he has to be shown the door, period,”

Costas, while highlighting that former President Trump is ‘a threat to democracy,’ expressed doubts about Biden’s prospects of winning against him in the 2024 showdown.

“Because, if Trump is a threat to democracy — and in many ways he is — so too are the Dems who are in danger of being as feckless as the Republicans have long been shameless,” Costas argued.

He further added, “If they’re gonna send this guy out there — if Trump is a monster, and in many ways he is, you’re gonna send this guy out to slay the dragon? I don’t think so.”

Costas further commented that Biden’s victory in the 2020 election was solely because ‘he’s not Trump.’ Additionally, the former NBC sports commentator expressed his belief that Biden initially planned to serve only a single term, a view Bill Maher concurred with.

Reading Between the Lines

“He did not promise not to run again,” Maher said. “But he did run on a big hint, yeah. He said, ‘I see myself as a bridge’ — that’s collapsing. Yeah, ‘I see myself as a bridge.’ I read that as ‘one-term,’ okay.”

Democratic Nominee Alternatives

During the discussion, Maher suggested that the Democrats still have an opportunity to nominate someone other than Biden, which he believes could enhance their chances of winning the presidency in November.

“And I guess the question is now, is it too late — and I don’t think it is because I think you can do it at the convention,” Maher said.

“People have said to me, ‘Oh, that’s ridiculous, they’ll look…’ They’ll look like nothing. Nobody gives a f… what you do, they’d be thrilled if they get it the day before the election. You could switch him out at the convention, good.”

Significant Week for Trump

Last week brought significant developments for those supporting Donald Trump’s return to the White House, while raising concerns among those worried about the state of American democracy.

Biden’s Memory Concerns

A harsh special counsel report criticized Joe Biden, depicting him as aging and forgetful. Meanwhile, Trump’s supporters seemed poised for a legal victory at the Supreme Court.

Additionally, Trump’s primary Republican opponent faced a major setback.

Skipping Super Bowl Tradition

Amid these events, Biden’s decision to decline a pre-Super Bowl TV appearance, breaking with the tradition of previous presidents, was seen by some as an attempt to avoid political discourse during a major sporting event, though skeptics questioned this rationale.

Before the release of Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents, the president had already declined the pre-Super Bowl interview.

Hur’s findings, though clearing Biden, were not without criticism, describing him as a ‘well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.’ This characterization taps into growing public concerns about Biden’s age and health, as well as apprehensions about a potential Trump comeback.

A Tightening Race

Despite Trump’s history of legal issues and impeachments, a Biden-Trump rematch seems increasingly likely. Polls indicate a tight race, often with Trump leading. Hur’s report, amplified in right-wing media, is seen as a significant boost for Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump’s portrayal of the decision not to prosecute Biden as proof of his own unfair treatment contrasts with Biden’s immediate cooperation and return of the discovered documents, unlike Trump’s own case.
