Trump Just Experienced a ‘Great, Wonderful, Fabulous Day’ Amid His Complex Legal Troubles

Thursday was an exceptionally good day for former President Donald Trump, as per experts’ insights shared with Newsweek.

A significant ethics complaint was lodged against one of Trump’s key adversaries. Additionally, Supreme Court justices appeared inclined to decide in the ex-president’s favor.

Furthermore, a critical report about his main political opponent was published.

Legal Ups and Downs

These recent events are a positive turn for Trump, who has recently faced several legal challenges, including a substantial $83.3 million verdict in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case and a federal appeals court decision that allowed federal criminal proceedings against him to proceed.

‘Fabulous Day’

“Former President Trump had a great, wonderful, fabulous day yesterday,” GOP consultant Alex Patton expressed to Newsweek on Friday.

Patton noted that Trump’s main strategy is to delay court cases as much as possible, while his secondary tactic is to ‘kick up as much dirt and smoke as possible.’

“When the air is dirty and smokey, the public doesn’t see well. Additionally, if he can continue to feed the ‘partisan witch-hunt narrative’, even better,” Patton stated.

“Yesterday was a very good day for him.”

A Week of Wins

“Donald Trump has had a great week,” Republican strategist Matt Klink concurred. “[He] still faces many legal hurdles but he most definitely won the week.”

Legal Battles Heat Up

Thursday for Trump started with a complaint that could impact one of his four criminal prosecutions.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a vocal Trump ally and conservative figure, submitted a complaint to the Georgia State Ethics Commission in the morning, seeking an inquiry into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s association with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Controversial Legal Ties

The issue of Willis and Wade’s relationship came to light through a legal motion that aimed to disqualify them from the extensive RICO case pursued by Willis’ office.

Willis acknowledged last week that her ‘personal relationship’ with Wade developed after she appointed him as a special prosecutor.

Taylor Greene’s complaint accuses the district attorney of breaching the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Act by failing to reveal ‘suspicious relationships and transactions.’

Worsening Scenario

District Attorney Fani Willis holds a press conference in the Fulton County Government Center after a grand jury voted to indict former US President Donald Trump and 18 others on August 14, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Georgia prosecutor who brought sweeping charges against former president Donald Trump and 18 other defendants said Monday, August 14, that she wants to hold their trial "within the next six months." Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said arrest warrants had been issued for Trump and the others charged over their efforts to overturn the 2020 election and they had until August 25 to "voluntarily surrender." According to GOP strategist Matt Klink, the unfolding drama with DA Fani Willis only worsens the situation for this already controversial prosecutor.

Shadow of Doubt

The controversy over Willis’ ties with Wade has cast a shadow on the case against Trump and 18 other defendants for allegedly meddling in Georgia’s 2020 election, and Republicans have used this to question the district attorney’s charges against the former president.

High Stakes

Not long after Taylor Greene’s complaint, the Supreme Court delved into oral arguments regarding the Colorado case aimed at barring Trump from the 2024 ballot. This 14th Amendment challenge is considered the most potent legal bid to prevent Trump’s future presidential run.

However, the justices’ queries suggested a likely ruling in his favor, keeping him eligible for the upcoming November election.

“Yesterday was a very good legal day for Trump,” former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani stated to Newsweek.

“He was always expected to win his 14th Amendment appeal, but now it appears the Supreme Court justices will overwhelmingly side with him.”

An Unexpected Ally for Trump

Surprisingly, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, appointed by President Joe Biden, emerged as an unexpected ally for Trump.

Jackson raised some of the most critical questions, expressing her concern about the insurrection clause’s failure to explicitly exclude the ‘president’ from holding office.

Later that Thursday, Special Counsel Robert Hur unveiled his long-awaited report on the Obama-era classified documents found with Biden, following a lengthy investigation.

Hur decided against criminal charges for Biden, distinguishing his case from Trump’s, yet the report portrays Biden as a forgetful leader, reigniting debates over his age and mental acuity.

Trump reacted strongly on Truth Social, stating in all caps, “This has now proven to be a two-tiered system of justice and unconstitutional selective prosecution!”
