“Trump’s View Of Loyalty Is One Way” And It’s Turning Allies Against Him

Former President Donald Trump has expected nothing less than total loyalty from his allies in the face of various legal investigations. However, after years of getting little in return, those allies allegedly start turning on him.

The context

After Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, former President Donald Trump and his allies began spreading claims of election fraud. They made multiple attempts to overturn the election to ensure Trump remained president.

According to several sources close to the former President, Trump demands total loyalty from his allies, which extends to helping him try to allegedly overturn an election.

As the law closes in, Trump’s demands for loyalty include expectations of martyrdom. Reports say his allies should be willing to take the heat for him.

The legal pressure on Trump and his team is nothing to sniff at. Allies who stay loyal to him risk significant jail time.

However, as the law has closed in, it’s apparently become apparent to many of Trump’s allies that this expected loyalty only goes one way. Trump will do anything to save himself, including turning on the very same allies who he expects to sacrifice themselves for him.

Disgruntlement

One former Trump administration official, who was interviewed by the federal team investigating Trump’s election interference, expressed his distrust of the former president. “If I went to jail for Donald Trump … what would that do for me and my family? I don’t think he would even give us lifetime Mar-a-Lago memberships if I did that for him,” the former official told Rolling Stone.

Michael Cohen, who formerly worked as a fixer and attorney for Trump, echoed this view. “Trump’s view of loyalty is one way, and that one way benefits only him. Donald has a history of using and abusing his associates, and he has shown no hesitation in throwing them under the bus when it suits his needs,” Cohen said.

Cohen knows just how disloyal Trump can be. Despite Cohen’s years of loyal service, including performing various criminal acts, Trump wasted little time smearing his former fixer when Cohen testified against him. “His record is a horrible one,” Trump told reporters outside the courtroom last week.

Lesson not learned

Other Trump allies have had to learn Cohen’s lesson the hard way. Jenna Ellis, for example, is an attorney who helped the Trump team attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s win in Georgia.

Ellis, who pleaded guilty in the Fulton County District, wrote in August on X that she has been “reliably informed Trump isn’t funding any of us who are indicted.” “Why isn’t [the pro-Trump Super Pac] MAGA, Inc. funding everyone’s defense?” She asked.

Regrets

Ellis accepted a plea deal and gave a tearful speech, accepting responsibility for and expressing regret for her crimes. “If I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges,” she said.

Of particular worry to Trump and his team is Mark Meadows. Trump’s former chief of staff was allegedly granted immunity by the special counsel investigating the attempt to overturn the election.

This alleged immunity could allow Meadows to spill the beans about Trump’s involvement in the reported attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Trump advisors now refer to Meadows with the rat emoji, Business Insider reported.

Trump’s team reportedly compiled lists of people who could be used as fall guys and scapegoats. Those who have declined to sacrifice themselves for him—even if they were forced to talk to investigators—are branded snitches and traitors by Trump.

Not worth it

Cohen told Rolling Stone that Trump didn’t deserve that kind of sacrificial loyalty. “This is not the kind of person that people are willing to or should sacrifice their freedom for.”
