In a recent address to his supporters on Friday evening in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump strongly criticized the current government’s policies on gun rights.
Biden’s Policies Under Fire
Trump proposed criminal consequences for Biden’s officials who disregard border regulations and critiqued the president’s advanced age.
Trump’s Vibrant Rally
Dismissing his own criminal charges as mere politically motivated attacks, Trump addressed a vibrant and sizable audience at the National Rifle Association’s Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg.
Immigration and Gun Rights
Initially focusing on overturning Biden’s restrictions on gun ownership and manufacturing, Trump quickly shifted to the topic of immigration, stating, “If the Senate wants to pass a real border bill, they should establish criminal penalties for senior Biden officials who refuse to enforce the existing law.”
Impeachment Attempt 4
Trump’s remarks followed closely on the heels of the House’s narrow failure to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for ‘willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” and “breach of public trust.’
Historic Influx
During the Biden administration’s time in office, there’s been a record influx of illegal immigrants, with over 300,000 encountered at the Southern border in December alone – a significant rise from the previous year.
The total for last year reached a staggering 2.4 million.
Border Tensions Escalate
Currently, border issues are a central topic in U.S. politics, with tensions running high in Washington D.C. The Senate recently defeated a contentious border bill, leaving Congress to grapple with its implications.
Solution or Problem?
The bill, as it stands, would allow the president to limit illegal entries under specific thresholds but has been criticized for merely codifying the president’s existing authority, potentially leading to greater leniency.
Trump’s Take
In his speech at the NRA event, Trump sharply criticized the recently unveiled $118 billion bipartisan border security bill by the U.S. Senate, which also includes aid for Ukraine and Israel.
Despite its introduction, the bill faced immediate resistance from the House of Representatives.
The ‘Hoax’ Bill
Trump criticized the administration’s inaction and the contentious nature of the bill, stating, “They don’t want to do anything — you don’t need a bill! The president has the right to say: “close the borders!” The bill is a hoax. The Democrats are asking for this bill that is so ridiculous — it’s a horrible bill — it’s actually going to make it worse. But I keep saying, you don’t need a bill.”
Applause for Trump
Trump then proudly recounted his firm approach to illegal immigration, receiving applause from his audience. He also commented on Biden’s apparent age-related difficulties during a recent press conference, referencing a special counsel report from February 5.
Biden’s Fitness for Trial
This report raised concerns about Biden’s fitness for trial regarding mishandling classified documents, noting his poor recall of his vice-presidential years and the inaccurate memory of his son Beau’s death.
Claims of Poor Memory
During a speech on Thursday, Joe Biden, while addressing a special counsel report about his handling of classified documents, mistakenly called Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi the leader of Mexico.
In his remarks, he responded to descriptions of his memory as ‘poor’—a claim he strongly refuted.
Two-Tiered Justice System’
Meanwhile, Trump, facing his own legal proceedings for similar issues, condemned what he views as a ‘two-tiered system of Justice.’
Trump, speaking about the charges against him, remarked, “If Biden is not going to be charged, that’s up to them. If he’s not going to be charged, that’s up to them, but I should not be charged.”
‘I don’t think he knows he’s alive’
When speculating about who was behind his prosecution, Trump cast doubt on Biden’s involvement, making a quip about Biden’s state of awareness.
“I don’t know that it’s Biden, because I don’t think he knows he’s alive,” he remarked.
Confidence in Victory
Despite losing Pennsylvania in 2020, Trump confidently predicted victory in the state for the 2024 elections, citing comments from local workers who told him, “Sir, you are more popular in this state right now, you’re gonna blow Pennsylvania away.”
His speech in Pennsylvania was received with great enthusiasm and lasted about an hour and a half.
