In a whirlwind of political drama and accusation, former Representative Liz Cheney finds herself at the center of a storm stirred by former President Donald Trump’s latest accusations, prompting her to dismiss his claims with the remark, “someone is starting 2024 hangry.”
Debunked Claims Resurface
On Monday, Former Rep. Liz Cheney was the main target of accusations from ex-president Trump, who claimed she deleted evidence regarding a debunked claim of him offering 10,000 soldiers to defend the Capitol on January 6.
Destroyed Evidence
In a New Year’s Day post on TruthSocial, the 2024 Republican frontrunner questioned why Cheney had removed a significant portion of the evidence and related items from the January 6th Committee of Political Thugs and Misfits.
He wrote, “Why did American Disaster Liz Cheney … DELETE & DESTROY most of the evidence, and related items, from the January 6th Committee of Political Thugs and Misfits.”
“Extreme” Legal Sabotage
He went on in an all-capitalized statement, saying, “THIS ACT OF EXTREME SABOTAGE MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY LAWYERS TO PROPERLY PREPARE FOR, AND PRESENT, A PROPER DEFENSE OF THEIR CLIENT, ME.”
The 10,000 Troop Tale
The ex-president and his devoted followers have repeatedly echoed the assertion about former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the purported request to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to the Capitol complex, even though it was debunked years ago.
The Real Story
In reality, Trump never issued a formal order to safeguard the Capitol on January 6, 2021; rather, he made an offhand comment during a meeting that was “unrelated” to the events of January 6 and was fueled by an “inflated expectation” of the crowd size, as reported by The Washington Post.
No Direct Order
The Post reported that Trump “never asked for 10,000 National Guard troops to be deployed to secure the Capitol on that day,” and the Defense Department did not interpret Trump’s comments as a “direct order.”
Cheney Responds
In quick response to Trump’s comments on the morning of January 2nd, Cheney pointed out that the committee’s complete 800+-page final report and all supporting materials are accessible online for anyone interested.
Trump “Hangry” in 2024
Cheney’s response on X read, “Seems like someone is starting 2024 hangry. @realDonaldTrump – you and your lawyers have had the J6 cmttee materials (linked below) plus the grand jury info & much more for months. Lying about the evidence in all caps won’t change the facts. A public trial will show it all.”
Cheney Re-Shares Key J6 Evidence
Cheney re-shared a post from August 2023, which also stated, “No surprise Trump doesn’t want you to see the J6 Committee evidence. Here’s the GPO website with transcripts, documents, exhibits & our meticulously sourced 800+ page final report. Also links to our hearings. Might be a good time to watch those again.”
“Crazy Nancy Pelosi”
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was a subject of criticism in Trump’s Monday post, where he claimed that she had turned down his offer of assistance. He stated, “All of the information on Crazy Nancy Pelosi turning down 10,000 soldiers that I offered to guard the Capitol Building, and beyond, is gone.”
Trump Calls for Case Termination
Seemingly irritated, Trump expressed, “The ridiculous Deranged Jack Smith case on Immunity, which the most respected legal minds in the Country say I am fully entitled to, is now completely compromised and should be thrown out and terminated, JUST LIKE THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS DID TO THE EVIDENCE!”
A Repeated Narrative
These claims are similar to what he expressed in September during an NBC News interview, where he remarked, “I behaved so well. I did such a good job. Nancy Pelosi turned down 10,000 soldiers.”
