In a related development, the Supreme Court ruled in January that federal border agents are permitted to access critical sections along the Rio Grande River, the boundary with Mexico, to remove razor-wire put up by Abbott.

The Biden administration argues that the razor wire hinders their agents’ access to vital areas and has started removing it.

Despite this, Texas is still restricting access to the Eagle Pass in the Shelby Park area.

Out of the 51 percent who support the governor, 35 percent strongly back him, while 16 percent offer more moderate support.

Governor Abbott of Texas has been actively enhancing border defenses, recently showcasing a video on X from Starr County.

On January 30, he stated, “Border wall construction is ongoing along the Texas-Mexico border,” emphasizing the state’s commitment to using ” every tool and strategy available to defend our southern border.”

Voters Concerned

This border issue could be pivotal as voters prepare for the presidential election later this year. Polls also reveal that 57 percent of Texas voters feel the Biden administration lacks control over the southern border, and an equal percentage blames the U.S. government for the existing border problems.

A major development in U.S. politics surfaced recently with the Senate’s unveiling of a $118 billion bipartisan border security bill, also earmarked for aid to Ukraine and Israel.

However, this bill faced immediate resistance from the House of Representatives.

President Joe Biden urged Congress to quickly pass this agreement, highlighting its migration measures resulting from months of negotiation. Contrarily, House Speaker Mike Johnson labeled it ‘dead on arrival’ in the House.

The bill’s fate remains uncertain, mainly as some Republican lawmakers express dissatisfaction with parts of the text.

Republican Senator James Lankford, a key negotiator, indicated on Fox Business Network’s ‘Mornings with Maria’ on February 6 that the bill requires ‘amendments’ before it can progress.
